@ElaineMcgreevy thanks for the follow! I just started this account so I appreciate somebody taking a chance on a new acct like mine. I try to post articles every once in a while - I'm also passionate about autism :) Nonverbal autism especially...
Article detailing some problems I've faced with teaching numeracy, numbers, and counting to my nonverbal daughter: https://t.co/s1XIR8Bzav #aba#numbers#homeschool
These have been amazing for our daughter. Our SLP moves each velcro piece to the "done" position, and my daughter knows she now gets the NEXT thing, which is usually something FUN after a task. So awesome, can't be understated.
@willdflower_ great point! Beyond that - many parents focus on verbal speech rather than visual communication, leading to heaps of frustration for a child who could already be using AAC or signs to say so much.
I'm very grateful for "guided access" on the iPad. Seems like Windows and Android should have a similar feature w/out downloading some 3rd party hack or making your machine a kiosk. #specialneeds#aba
New article: Using AAC to help a child begin using YES and NO, with and without their device. https://t.co/GWfDEgfepa For us this has been huge, after years of trying to guess what her answer was. #autism#nonverbal
Why I chose not have a blog: I get lost in blogs! So instead, I have a table of articles which will be searchable & sortable. https://t.co/dgeyTsY84I That way people can see if anything I've written matters to them w/out the endless scrolling! #autism#nonverbal apraxia
@EdgarFamilyLaw My favorite point: "If someone does not have more than an academic understanding of autism, they are not going to make a good Team-Bobby member. If they donโt respect the expertise of the parent, hasta la vista, baby." We parted ways with an ABA therapist for just this reason!
We are excited about #ABA here in Alaska, in large part due to AWESOME providers like ours (Hope Community Resources) - they are very flexible, understand an AAC first approach, and try to meet the child "where they are" rather than where they "want" them.
@mbrain82 You are welcome! Just started this account to try and find awesome resources to use in my articles about AAC & nonverbal autism. Thanks for the shout out!
@grhluna24 sure! I just started this account as our website is new - https://t.co/Dc6JnuG5Hs - trying to add new articles and graphics as often as I can, all directed towards parents with nonverbal children.
Alaska is very very lucky. #aba just got funded here, in spite of our state's budget woes. Grateful parents like us will take it while we can get it. #autism
For the first time, three tetraplegic people are able to control a commercial tablet device with their thoughts thanks to a brain-computer interface: https://t.co/41l28IcME5
Just started this account for our #aac site, https://t.co/Dc6JnuG5Hs We've got over 200 icons for speech & #autism, plus articles about our experiences learning to use a speech device with our autistic daughter. Check us out!
