History Came Full Circle in Oyo

Humbled to be installed as Balogun of Oyo by HIM, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, Alaafin of Oyo, succeeding Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo, with my wife as Ayinba Balogun. Deeply moved by the presence of HIM, the Olubadan of Ibadanland. A call to serve.

[Babafemi Oretuyi @Opetuyii]

Congratulations, Dr. @AAdeduntan on your Installation as Balogun of Oyo by Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Owoade 1, Alaafin of Oyo.

What failed historically was not Islam—but our execution of its economic philosophy.

Economic empowerment is therefore a collective duty.
Participation without ownership breeds dependence.
Charity without production erodes dignity.
Institutions—not intentions—secure the future.

Yesterday, I delivered The Fountain University 2026 Convocation Lecture titled “From Faith to Fortune.”
It was not about motivation. It was about responsibility.
I addressed a paradox many recognise but few confront honestly:
a community strong in faith and numbers, yet weak in economic ownership, innovation, and institutional power.

Strategic clarification:
The Qur’an does NOT preach withdrawal from the world.
It commands mastery of it—through knowledge, work, planning, and enterprise—anchored in moral purpose.

The Qur’an:
• Legitimises profit
• Commands work
• Honours knowledge
• Encourages exploration
• Demands excellence
• Mandates planning
• Balances wealth with responsibility

Reflecting on last Saturday’s 5th Convocation of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan.

Encouraged by progress made — accreditation, leadership stability, infrastructure — and deeply appreciative of the strong support of the Visitor, Gov. Seyi Makinde.

As Pro-Chancellor, our priorities are clear: grow enrolment, improve student diversity, and deepen Tech-U’s role in the State/Ibadan’s renaissance through technology, innovation, and town-gown partnerships.

The work continues.
Watch this space.
