A retired U.S. general just went on CNN and said the quiet part out loud.
When asked whether he trusts Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s claim that U.S. strikes in Iran “won’t spiral” into something bigger, Maj. Gen. Randy Manner (Ret.) didn’t exactly sound reassured.

In fact, he sounded alarmed.

According to Manner, the mission has been shifting in real time. First, the justification was to stop nuclear weapons development. Now? Regime change. And then more objectives keep getting piled on.

“It almost seems like someone Googled it before the brief,” Manner said, describing a strategy that feels like it’s throwing “everything and the kitchen sink” into the operation.

That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of steady leadership.

Let’s be clear about what this means: When military goals start changing by the week — when objectives expand instead of narrow — that’s how conflicts become quagmires. That’s how “this won’t be Iraq” turns into something disturbingly familiar.

And here’s the part that should chill every American.

While the UK government is actively arranging transport to evacuate British citizens from the region, Americans stuck there feel “abandoned,” according to Manner. Embassy staff are reportedly in “survival mode” after the administration slashed State Department budgets by nearly half over the past year.

Read that again.

Budgets gutted. Personnel stretched thin. Americans in a potential combat zone with little guidance. Meanwhile, the mission keeps morphing.

This isn’t strength. It’s chaos dressed up as confidence.

Ninety-nine percent of the Americans in the region, Manner noted, are not trained for combat situations. They’re ordinary travelers. Families. Workers. People who assumed their government would have a plan.

Instead, they’re watching objectives shift, rhetoric escalate, and evacuation efforts lag behind other allied nations. Trumpworld wants you to believe this is controlled, decisive leadership.

But when a retired major general is openly describing the strategy as improvised and “disconcerting,” that’s not partisan spin. That’s a warning.

And Americans would be wise to listen before “this is not Iraq” becomes the next infamous quote.
