🌏 AALTO anticipates that Asia-Pacific will be a strategic growth market for Stratospace. That's why extending our ecosystem to Australia is such a significant milestone in our mission to form a coalition of partners, and through our people and technology, deliver game-changing services from Stratospace.
We're excited at the prospect of working with Australian and New Zealand partners in exploring and creating opportunities together. As Hughes Boulnois, our CEO, put it:
🗨️ "AALTO is at the forefront of Stratospace: a new domain of aerospace that bridges space and ground technology to deliver cutting-edge applications from near space. By kick-starting efforts to create a payload network of homegrown Australian technologies, there is potential to create significant value for commercial and government stakeholders while we explore opportunities for an operational AALTOPORT in-country.
This year, AALTO will continue its commercial roadmap as it delivers on-station demonstration for our customers while investing in Zephyr’s technology and operational roadmap. At the same time, we anticipate that Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific will be a strategic growth market for AALTO this decade. We look forward to working closely with national innovators such as the Northern Territory Government to begin our next mission: to Unlock Stratospace in Australia."

AALTO steps up engagement toward Australia’s 🇦🇺 emerging Stratospace ecosystem.
Australia is poised to play a growing role in the future of Stratospace: the new domain of aerospace between air traffic and low Earth orbit, 60,000ft high in the stratosphere.
AALTO has identified northern Australia as a target region for our next potential AALTOPORT: intended to complement our existing launch and landing infrastructure. While exploratory work and regulatory engagement continues, there is a significant opportunity for Australia to help shape the next chapter of Stratospace.
As part of this early-stage work, we’re inviting national developers, universities, and innovators to express interest in working with AALTO to build a technology ecosystem centred on payloads. Organisations are invited to submit expressions of interest for their technologies, with a select number to join AALTO for initial technical and commercial discussions at NTDefence Week in April 2026, delivered in partnership with the Northern Territory Government.
The payload campaign also welcomes contributions from New Zealand to support wider payload development in the region.

Très Haute Altitude by Ministère de la Défense is clear: high altitude is an emerging focus for the defence market.
As part of its three-pillar approach, this year the ministry will co-operate with AALTO on the demonstration of Zephyr: the most advanced fixed-wing stratospheric platform with months of operating capability.
Together with government partners, we will unlock several highly relevant applications from the stratosphere.

AALTO welcomes the Très Haute Altitude strategy that was unveiled at Le Bourget by Ministère de la Défense. A new operational layer in the stratosphere, between controlled airspace and low-Earth orbit at 60,000ft, is a growing focus for military customers.
In 2025 we will be working with our European customers to demonstrate the capabilities of Zephyr: the most advanced stratospheric platform globally. As part of the multi-domain ecosystem, Zephyr operates for months at a time, combining the persistence of a satellite and agility of an aircraft to deliver several applications from high altitude.

Hello? It's the stratosphere calling! 📱📶
AALTO has conducted a stratospheric connectivity test in Kenya, connecting a 4G mobile device through Zephyr — our world-leading fixed-wing HAPS.
The successful demonstration of AALTO’s connectivity payload was conducted on behalf of customer Space Compass and NTT DOCOMO. AALTO is working closely with Japanese partners on commercialising HAPS services with an initial entry-into-service targeted for 2026.
The announcement comes on the first day of GSMA's Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2025.

Long flight? Ours was two weeks.
Zephyr has completed more than 13 days of stratospheric flight and testing, returning this weekend to its Kenyan launch and landing facility. In the longest unrefuelled flight over Africa in history, AALTO conducted a successful demonstration of a communications payload and improved the aircraft’s flight envelope with a series of tests.
With the support of Kenyan authorities, we are now one step closer to commercialising the stratosphere.

Zephyr returns to the stratosphere! ✈
This weekend, from its first launch and landing facility in Kenya, AALTO completed the first successful launch of Zephyr in 2025.
After climbing to 60,000ft, our solar-powered Zephyr has now been flying continuously over Kenya for over 48hrs. It remains the only fixed-wing HAPS to demonstrate day and night-time operations in the stratosphere.
Over the coming days, AALTO will be conducting its first tests from the stratosphere this year. It is a key milestone on our roadmap to utilise HAPS to provide connectivity and Earth observation services to those that need it most.
The establishment of an AALTOPORT in Kenya is unprecedented in the HAPS industry. Thanks to a pioneering regulatory landscape, a purpose-built Zephyr facility has been developed in Laikipia County in 2024. Through their support, national authorities led by the Kenya Space Agency and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority have demonstrated their vision to champion cutting-edge aerospace technologies.
Together with our partners, we have Taken Kenya Stratospheric.
