THE LIVING DEAD

I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. - (Psalm 16:8)

READ: 1 Corinthians 11:24-26

In John 6:53, Jesus Christ said that only those who partake of His flesh and blood will have life in them. This implies that anyone who does not accept Him as his or her Lord and Saviour is as good as dead. Such people may seem to be alive, but really, there is no life in them, and it would be correct to refer to them as the 'living dead'.

As we see in today's Bible reading, Jesus Christ instituted the Lord's Supper, also known as the Holy Communion, to illustrate the eating of His flesh and drinking of His blood. He shared bread and wine with His disciples that night, describing it as the new covenant in His blood. Partaking of the flesh and blood of Jesus gives us life as Christians, and this is why the Holy Communion is such a powerful meal.

The Lord Jesus also commanded His disciples to continue having the meal in remembrance of Him until His return. So, as often as we believers partake of the Holy Communion, we bring the sacrifice of our Lord and Saviour to remembrance. This has several benefits for us believers, one of which is that it helps us to keep Him before us at all times. This means that as a believer, when Christ is always before you, satan has no chance to attack you.

As we see in today's memory verse, David said that he had set the Lord always before him, and because He was at his right hand, he would not be moved. This was the confidence David had that nothing could shake him since the Lord was always before him. When you partake of the Holy Communion often and worthily, you will be secured from evil and surrounded by favour because the Lord will always be before you.

Apart from those who do not partake of the flesh and blood of Jesus, those who do so while wallowing in sin can also be referred to as the 'living dead'. This is because, as they partake of the Holy Communion, God is right before them, and they incur His wrath because they are living in sin. This can also make such persons sickly and even cost them their lives (1 Corinthians 11:29-30).

Beloved, don't be among the 'living dead'. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour if you haven't, stay away from sin, and always make the best of the privilege to sit at the Lord's table as often as you can.

KEY POINT:
Those who reject the sacrifice of Jesus are the living dead.

BE RICH IN GOOD WORKS

I once spent the night in the house of a wealthy man, and he invited me to stay for breakfast. When I got to the dining table, I was presented with a variety of dishes to choose from. There were so many options that I became overwhelmed and began to long for the simplicity of the meals in my house.

Beloved, I have spent a little over 80 years in this world, and I have realised that it takes really simple things to truly enjoy life. It is good to be wealthy; however, if people make their material possessions the focus of their lives to the extent that even regular things in their lives become complicated, it can lead to depression.

In today's Bible reading, Paul urged Timothy to tell those who were rich in the church he was overseeing not to be high-minded but to be rich in good works. God doesn't give people wealth so they can flaunt it; He blesses people with wealth so they can be good stewards of His resources. Any fellow who hoards what God has given him or her will not enjoy happiness because it is always more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). God wants His children to be rich in good works. He wants them to be like the women in Luke 8:2-3 who used their resources to minister to Jesus and advance His earthly ministry. The blessings that God has given to you should be used to bless others.

No matter how big your house is, you cannot sleep in all the rooms in it at the same time. No matter how rich you are, it will be foolish to wash your hands with oil instead of water because you will only be causing trouble for yourself. Life is simple; it should not be complicated in the process of trying to flaunt wealth. Many people have fallen into a state of depression because they allowed their wealth to distract them from the simplicity of life.

Beloved, the only way the wealth God blesses you with can truly make you happy is when you are rich in good works like feeding the poor, supporting missionaries on mission fields, building churches, and expanding God's kingdom in whatever way you can. Therefore, rather than spending your money on the most expensive things you can get, use it to make an impact for God's kingdom in the world.

Men with a strong sense of duty and responsibility often take on too much.

They sincerely believe it is their role to help, protect, support, and solve problems for the people close to them. They do not necessarily do this to impress anyone. For them, it can feel like the natural thing to do.

In relationships, this can become especially visible.
A man like this will invest far more time, energy, money, and emotional support into a relationship than he receives in return. He may help not only his partner, but also her family, her friends, and her relatives if he believes they truly need support.
The problem is that, over time, this level of giving can start to be taken for granted.

His care stops being seen as something valuable. It becomes expected. It becomes “just what a normal man should do.” The woman may stop noticing how much he is actually carrying because his help has become part of the background.

I recently came across a post from a woman
She had left a ten-year marriage because she was bored, though she didn’t put it that way, not even to herself. What she said was that she’d outgrown it. That she started looking at the next thirty years and feeling trapped by their sameness. That the best parts of her had nowhere to go.
She spent months trying to understand what was happening. He hadn’t cheated. He hadn’t become cruel. They weren’t screaming at each other. Which only made the restlessness harder to explain.
She kept asking herself when it had happened. What had changed? Why she felt this way? And why she couldn’t seem to fix it. At some point the questions shifted. Have we become roommates? Is this really what marriage is supposed to feel like?
If she’d felt this way for this long, surely something had to be wrong.
Her husband was stable, kind, and present. He came home. Paid the bills. Took out the trash. Sat beside her every night.
What she wanted from him, though, hadn’t really changed. Ten years in, she still wanted to feel what she’d felt in the beginning. She wanted the electricity to stay.
Eventually, she left and found something electric again. For a while, it worked. But that relationship developed its own quiet stretches and ordinary days, and before long, the familiar question returned.
Am I being fulfilled?
Along with it came a thought she could never quite bring herself to finish.
Maybe this is me. Maybe I’m the thing that doesn’t change.
It was the most honest thought she had.

Somewhere along the way, difficult had stopped meaning worth working through. It had started to feel like a warning.
If it takes this much work, maybe we’re forcing it.

Every long relationship goes through quiet stretches, weeks of low warmth, seasons where you look across the table and think: is this really it? Have we run out of things to say? That isn’t a sign the marriage is broken. It’s a sign it’s long.
Feelings rise and fall. Duty remains.

Nothing in this argument asks anyone to remain in an abusive, degrading, or fundamentally destructive relationship. Duty is not slavery. When cruelty, betrayal, or chronic contempt destroy the relationship itself, leaving isn’t the abandonment of duty. It is the recognition that what duty was meant to protect no longer exists.
Abuse and irreconcilable incompatibility are reasons to leave. Boredom and quiet disconnection are not. One grows worse with time. The other belongs to every long relationship. Confusing the two is where many decisions go wrong.

Nobody takes vows because they expect to feel deeply in love every day for fifty years. Vows exist because everyone understands that feelings are temporary. That’s why people make promises. If happiness were enough, nobody would need promises in the first place.

History gives us many examples of remarkable men whose life’s work mattered more to them than relationships. People often mention figures such as Isaac Newton, Nikola Tesla, and Immanuel Kant in this context.

For these men, the central purpose of life became their ideas, projects, discoveries, or intellectual work.
Of course, not every man is a genius on that scale. But the principle itself remains the same.

After a painful disappointment in love, many decent men start looking for meaning in other areas of life. Some throw themselves into work. Some focus on business. Some turn to creativity, charity, public service, personal development, or raising their children.

Over time, they may come to feel that these areas give them more fulfillment, recognition, peace, and stability than repeated attempts to build relationships that keep failing.

For some men, this is only a temporary stage. For others, it becomes a final life choice.
And it would be unfair to call that choice wrong.
Every person has the right to decide where to place their time, energy, and loyalty.

That is why some decent men really do stop actively searching for a partner. They direct their lives toward something they consider larger, deeper, and more meaningful than the pursuit of romance.

The truth is that decency alone does not guarantee romantic success.

A man can be honest, loyal, generous, responsible, and kind, and still be unlucky in love. He may give too much to the wrong person. He may refuse to play emotional games. He may become more selective with age. Or he may decide that his energy is better spent on work, children, creativity, faith, service, or personal goals.

This does not mean that such men are doomed to loneliness.

But it does mean that the qualities that make a man morally strong do not always make his romantic life easy.

Sometimes a decent man has to learn not only how to love, but also how to protect himself. Not only how to give, but also how to notice whether he is receiving anything in return. Not only how to be reliable, but also how to avoid becoming useful to people who do not truly value him.

And perhaps the most important lesson is this: being a good man does not mean sacrificing yourself for people who would never do the same for you.
A decent man does not need to become cruel, cynical, or emotionally unavailable.

But he does need to understand one thing clearly:
kindness without boundaries is not love.
It is self-destruction disguised as devotion.

You will never grow in an environment that never challenges you.

A true man or woman of God will challenge you:

To sow when fear says hold back.

To believe when circumstances say quit.

To receive when religion says you're unworthy.

To step out when your comfort zone says stay where you are.

To think bigger.

To expect more.

To trust God beyond what your natural mind can understand.

The greatest sermons are often not the ones that make you comfortable.

They are the ones that confront your unbelief and awaken your faith.

Faith grows at the edge of your comfort zone.

A minister may gain attention by attacking other ministers. A preacher may build a following by criticizing, mocking, or even misrepresenting fellow servants of God. To some, that may sound bold, fearless, and "refreshingly uncompromising."

But the Kingdom of God does not operate by tearing others down. God never called us to advance His cause through hatred, slander, or division.

It is possible to disagree without dishonoring. It is possible to defend truth without attacking people. It is possible to correct error without becoming cruel.

Temporary attention can be gained through controversy. Loyal followers can be gathered through outrage. But whatever is built on strife will eventually reveal the weakness of its foundation.

The fruit of the Spirit is not hatred. The language of Heaven is not slander. The way of Christ is truth spoken in love.

Be careful of those who seem to have a greater passion for exposing other ministers than for exalting Jesus. The Kingdom of God grows through love, truth, honor, and the preaching of the Gospel—not through the constant destruction of others.

3 Reasons Why I Sow Into The Ministries I Receive From

1. Honor.
When a ministry consistently feeds my faith, strengthens my walk with God, and helps me grow spiritually, sowing is one way I express honor and gratitude.

2. Partnership.
The Gospel reaches more people when those who receive from it choose to support it. My seed becomes part of something bigger than myself.

3. Obedience to a Biblical Principle.
Scripture teaches that those who are taught the Word should share with those who teach them. Sowing is my way of participating in God's pattern for sustaining Kingdom work.

"Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches." — Galatians 6:6

30 minutes with God every day can change your life if you’re consistent with it.

1 hour with God can do the same.
2 hours can do the same.
Even 10 minutes can make a difference.

The key is consistency.

Whatever amount of time you choose to give to God, be faithful with it every day, and you’ll begin to see the difference it makes in your life.

Don’t try to pray for 3 hours when you’ve not yet built the habit of spending 30 minutes with God. That’s often how people become exhausted and discouraged.

Start with what you can manage, stay consistent, and grow from there.

The Bible is not a buffet where we keep the verses we like and discard the ones that challenge our unbelief.
Either God tells the truth—or He doesn't.
