This is something that’s helped me and a lot of the people I have coached…
“Body-image is a by-product of performance” Aaron Martin et al
Read that again.
My 7 life lessons from getting fit:
1. Learning to say no
2. Realising you just need to turn up
3. Good beats perfect
4. The little things matter
5. Quality > Quantity
6. Playing the long game
7a. Being fit doesn’t make you happy…
7b. But fuck me it helps a lot
And finally, don’t forget to be consistent.
Keep turning up no matter what and the more consistent you are with all of the above the more consistent your results will be.
And hopefully you won’t need this pep talk next year ✌🏻
Don’t neglect your lifestyle.
How much you sleep and drink plays a huge role in our behaviours everyday including our training and nutrition.
Sleep plenty and drink plenty.
The reason people fail to hit their fitness goals is not because…
Their bodies broken
They have poor genetics
They aren’t doing the right exercises
They need a special diet
It’s the fact they let one bad day, turn into a bad month and then a bad month turn into a bad year.
Stop trying to run, before you can walk.
If you started with a BB conventional deadlift, you’re trying to run.
If you’re starting with a DB RDL, that’s walking.
If you started with a BB Back Squat, you’re trying to run.
If you’re starting with a goblet squat, that’s walking.
The most underrated ways to improve your training:
1. Lift to a tempo
2. Time your rest periods
3. Follow a structured program
4. Warm up…properly
5. Focus on form
6. Progressive Overload
5.Consistency
You will never achieve your goals without being consistent on all parts. You don’t need to be perfect but you need to be good and keep turning up each week.
4.Not eating enough calories
If you want to perform and train with intensity you need consistent energy each day throughout the week. Minimise yo-yo eating and eat around maintenance or in a slight surplus.
