My grandmother grew up in Germany in the ‘30s and ‘40s.
Her grandfather, a successful publisher, had many “undesirable” friends.
She saw those friends disappear one by one.
Some of them have these plaques today.
All else aside, let us remember them. #NeverAgain
Today marks the anniversary of Kristallnacht, or the "Night of Broken Glass," which took place on November 9, 1938. In remembrance, we joined a group in our neighborhood to clean Stolpersteine — small brass plaques embedded in the pavement that honor the memory of victims of the Holocaust. Each plaque is placed in front of the last known residence of an individual who was persecuted by the Nazis.
@PodcastTheRide@scottgairdner the Casa Bonita ep was excellent! I grew up in CO & went several times. I haven’t since it reopened but hope to. My thoughts on Matt and Trey’s revamp are complicated, but I’m so happy to hear they’ve retained so much of its lovably weird character.
@LoriMagai@DrFrancisYoung In a university reading room I was able to handle a dusty first edition of James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’ with the pages not yet cut. Needless to say, they’ve stayed that way.
@Vril_Antiquaria@vikingverse I would imagine so. I could see it being some other tool or weapon, but not anything I can think of that’s typically associated with Tiwaz or his possible analogues.
@GoranGligovic @_kjart_ Can’t help but cynically imagine that’s going to get 1000x worse over the next few centuries until we’re all gleefully living in an actual dystopia
@langhuck @BirdTickler He tells it better, but a friend DJ’d a huge college party and a few songs in got to Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65. Party loved it. Then he says “ok this next one is a banger…it’s Blue by Eiffel 65!” and just kept doing that like 15 times until he got mobbed
@phil_lol_ogist From constantly lifting fancy copies of classic books, of course. Also can’t afford a gym membership because he spent all his disposable income on $400 books so it’s all he’s got.
@patrick19980720 @JesseMLocker @lisafdavis A motif called the Dream of the Magi - in which God reveals to them the safe way to return home after Epiphany, so they could avoid the wrath of Herod.
