The children and teachers abducted by Ansaru terrorists in Oyo State have been rescued by our security forces, alive and unharmed. No ransom was paid. No concession was made.

The waste is being used to generate gas to power electricity in the market, used for charging of gadgets and the likes.

Hopefully it will extend to other markets.

Tomorrow morning between 6:30am and 8:30am, we begin a new chapter in our collective journey toward a cleaner Lagos. The monthly environmental sanitation exercise returns, and I am calling on every resident to come out and participate actively.

Let me address the confusion some have tried to create. No court pronouncement has invalidated this exercise. The State proceeded to the Court of Appeal, and judgment was delivered in our favour. The Court affirmed that the laws used for the implementation and enforcement of environmental sanitation are legitimate and constitutional. So disregard those who choose to mislead the public.

We have planned this for over a year. We have thought it through. We cannot keep complaining about dirty surroundings and blaming government while shirking our own responsibilities. The care of our environment is a collaborative project between government and citizens.

Major transport unions controlling about 90% of vehicles on our roads have pledged not to deploy their vehicles from major parks during the sanitation window. If government vehicles are staying put, what will it cost us to stay home for just two hours to clean our environment?

We are not unreasonable. Exceptions exist for emergencies, scheduled flights, and students writing JAMB exams. LAWMA has been fully mobilized to evacuate waste generated. Environmental health officers will monitor properties, and defaulters will be served abatement notices.

Tomorrow, let us show Lagos and the world that we are ready to take ownership of our environment. Two hours. One Saturday each month. A cleaner, healthier, flood-free Lagos for all of us.

Following the symbolic flag off of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise along the Mushin Agege Motor Road corridor on Saturday, March 14th, 2026, I wish to provide further clarity on the modalities of the programme as we prepare for the first exercise on Saturday, April 25th, 2026.

The exercise will hold every last Saturday of the month between the hours of 6:30 am and 8:30 am. During this period, there will be controlled movement across the state to allow residents carry out thorough cleaning of their homes, surroundings and drainage frontages.

Our enforcement officers from the ministry, LASEPA, KAI, LAWMA, and local government sanitation inspectors will conduct physical inspections during and after the sanitation window to ensure compliance. Defaulters will be sanctioned in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

LAWMA intervention trucks will go around to cart away bagged wastes generated during the exercise. I also wish to announce that there will be rewards for the cleanest Local Government Area, Local Council Development Area, and the cleanest street as part of efforts to encourage healthy competition and community participation.

We urge all residents to take ownership of this exercise and join hands with the government in building a cleaner, safer and more sustainable Lagos.

FLASH: The Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor @jidesanwoolu is set to launch the OMI EKO Project, tomorrow October 17, 2025.

The project is a major initiative aimed at improving water transportation across Lagos State, which is being implemented by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) @talktolaswa and supported through €410 million in funding under the Global Gateway Initiative, backed by the European Union, the French Development Agency, and the European Investment Bank.

The OMI EKO project will introduce:

New fleet of 78 high-capacity electric ferries (between 50-200 passenger capacity)

Modern terminals & floating jetties (upgrade + new ones).

Dredging & channel works to open / stabilise routes (~140 km; 15 routes).

Digital ticketing & smart terminals for faster boarding.

Stronger safety, regulation & capacity building with LASWA oversight.

This project will be done in phases over the next 6 years.

Lagos has made history as the first African city to host the E1 electric powerboat race, the E1 Lagos GP.

This speaks to the future we are building, one of clean energy, innovation, and opportunities for our young people.

By joining cities like Monaco, London, and Venice on the E1 calendar, Lagos has once again shown that we are bold, resilient, and ready to take our place on the global stage.

We kicked things off yesterday with a vibrant boat regatta that showcased the beauty and energy of Lagos on the water. Today, we had the qualifying trials and races, and they were exciting to watch.

The action on the water was pure skill, speed, and teamwork on display. Lagos truly shone as we hosted the world with warmth, pride, and excitement. I’m proud of everyone who helped make this event a success and of the amazing Lagosians who came out to support.
