Our group had dinner together and the bill was around $500. We tipped $40, thinking it was a fair gesture, but the server told us she expected at least $120 instead. After we asked for the manager, she said she was only kidding, although she didn't appear to be joking. I'm curious what others think—is a $40 tip too low for a $500 bill, or is expecting $120 excessive?
