I just saw it somewhere that the original design of Voldemort was scrapped for being too terrifying and potentially traumatizing to kids

In the Harry Potter books, Voldemort is portrayed as a terrifying, nearly untouchable dark wizard, commonly referred to as "You-Know-Who" or "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" due to deep-seated fear of his power and reputation. A lot of characters describe him as a remorseless, highly skilled, and manipulative leader who sought to dominate the wizarding world and eliminate muggle-borns.

He is described as having a chalk-white, skull-like face, red eyes with cat-like slits, and snake-like nostrils.

I wonder why they did not stick with this fearsome look.
