Today, the UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in support of an African-led resolution to correct the Mercator-based world map, addressing a 450 years injustice that has visually shrunk Africa for centuries, shaping how the continent is perceived in media, education, and policy.
Look at a world map. Africa looks about the same size as Greenland, right?
Africa is actually 14x bigger than Greenland.
The Mercator projection — the map hanging in your classroom, stretches landmasses near the poles and shrinks everything near the equator. It was made in 1569 for sailors, not truth.
Here’s what actually fits inside Africa’s real borders:
🇺🇸 The United States
🇨🇳 China
🇮🇳 India
🇫🇷 France, Spain, Germany, and most of Western Europe
🇯🇵 Japan
…all of them. At once. With room to spare.

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan describes Somali referee Omar Abdikadir Artan as a global and African icon, saying his return to Nairobi has inspired young people across the continent.

I was honoured to join a productive Eastleigh Business District Association (EBDA) meeting in Eastleigh with business and community leaders to discuss practical strategies for the neighbourhood. EBDA is the largest and the most influential Somali business group in Kenya.
I urged the Eastleigh community to heighten political engagement, participate in socio-political matters at local, regional, and national levels, register in large numbers, and be ready to vote in the 2027 General Election.
I’m deeply grateful for the ongoing support and confidence from the business owners and community elders, and for their strong endorsement of my MP candidature for Kamukunji constituency in 2027.
Special thanks to the organisers, especially EBDA Chair Haji Ahmed Yare, Deputy Chair Haji Abdi Madobe, SG Omar Mohamed, Eastleigh North MCA Ahmedqadar Dabar, former Councillor Haji Ibrahim Isack ‘Billow’, and all the community elders who contributed valuable insights to today’s gathering.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has underscored coffee’s role as a key economic pillar in Kenya, noting its impact on more than 120,000 farmers in Kirinyaga County.
Speaking at the launch of the coffee revival programme, Waiguru revealed that annual production in Kirinyaga has surged from 28,000 metric tonnes in 2017 to 49,100 tonnes in 2025–2026, crediting recent reforms for driving farmers’ earnings into the billions between 2023 and 2026.
Speaking at the launch of the coffee revival programme in Kirinyaga County, Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe confirmed the establishment of the Coffee Board and the Coffee Training and Research Institute to strengthen the sector and support cooperatives.
Kagwe stressed that coffee farming is just the starting point, with the ultimate goal being to ensure farmers earn meaningful income from their crop.
Speaking at the coffee revival launch in Kirinyaga County, President William Ruto noted that coffee prices have improved significantly compared to previous years, but emphasised there’s still potential for further growth.
Ruto also called for an end to long payment delays, stressing that farmers who do the hard work of growing and harvesting coffee deserve fair and timely compensation.
During the coffee revival launch in Kirinyaga County, President William Ruto unveiled sweeping reforms to transform the coffee sector, including a new commitment to pay farmers within days of delivery.
Ruto acknowledged that the industry has long suffered from delayed payments, high charges, weak institutions, and a lack of transparency, factors that have discouraged many farmers. He said the government is now prioritising both higher coffee yields and better quality through improved seedlings, modern farming techniques, and expanding cultivation to more counties.
President William Ruto revealed that the government has registered 7.3 million farmers to enhance support and planning in the agriculture sector.
Speaking during the coffee revival launch in Kirinyaga County, Ruto said fertiliser prices have been reduced to Sh2,500 per bag through government subsidies, with Sh18 billion allocated to further lower costs and ensure wider access for farmers. He noted that funding for fertiliser support has grown from Sh7 billion in 2022 to Sh18 billion, aiming to boost productivity and increase farmer earnings.
