OGUN DAY 2026: YORUBA TRADITION RESONATES ACROSS ONDO TOWN

Yoruba tradition came alive in Ondo Town as the Town Hall hosted a massive cultural gathering to mark Ogun Day 2026.
The celebration brought together traditional rulers, cultural enthusiasts, devotees and members of the community in a colourful display of Yoruba heritage, history and tradition.
From traditional music and attire to age-old customs and cultural performances, the event once again showcased the enduring strength and richness of Yoruba culture.

7. AKWA IBOM STATE (1st September, 2026): ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY AND RAPE SUSPECT / RECOVERY OF WEAPON

✅ Following a report of armed robbery and rape at Itam, Police operatives launched an intelligence-led operation to track the suspect.

✅ The suspect, Timothy Bassey, was successfully arrested.

✅ A knife/dagger allegedly used in committing the offences was recovered from the suspect.

🔹 Status: SCID Uyo Investigating.

8. GOMBE STATE (2nd September, 2026): ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT

✅ Following credible information concerning an armed robbery and assault at Kagarawal Quarters, Gombe, Police operatives launched an operation to apprehend the perpetrators.

✅ One suspect, Umar Muhammed, 19 years, was successfully arrested.

✅ Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.

🔹 Status: SCID Gombe Investigating.

9. EKITI STATE (3rd September, 2026): PREVENTION OF FURTHER BREAKDOWN OF LAW AND ORDER / RESTORATION OF NORMALCY

✅ Following the escalation of a dispute into a violent communal clash between youths of Ikogosi-Ekiti and Erijiyan-Ekiti, Police tactical teams were deployed to reinforce local operatives.

✅ Through coordinated intervention and engagement with traditional authorities, the youths were successfully pacified.

✅ Normalcy was restored, while security personnel remain deployed to prevent further escalation.

🔹 Status: SCID Ado-Ekiti Investigating.

Watching the ongoing discussions about the restructuring of Nigeria in Abuja fills me with hope and excitement. I am particularly happy to see the growing desire among Yoruba communities from Jebba and Igbomina in Kwara, Kabba and Lokoja in Kogi, our Itsekiri brothers in Delta, and the Yoruba communities of Akoko Edo to strengthen their connection with Yoruba brothers in the Southwest.
Our shared history and ancestral ties remain strong. If the people freely choose greater unity through peaceful and democratic processes, it could mark the beginning of a new chapter.
Give us a few years to this time, with unity, vision and serious investment, I believe the Yoruba people can build another Lagos with great economic powerhouse, including a world-class mega coastal city along the Itsekiri axis.
The Yoruba story is still unfolding, and the future looks promising. 🌍💪🏾
