Arewa is facing mass kidnappings across multiple states and severe system failures, yet Arewa twitter is obsessed with the usual extra-marital iskanci of elites. What's the point of having elections? People are not ready.
This is one of the delusions of being an elite in office, living in a bubble. You think you are so noble, helping the little people by talking to them and joking with them. You believe you should be praised for these acts, for interacting with them as... humans. No shame enters your heart that these little girls are hawking because their families have so few opportunities for survival. No sense of duty makes you lose sleep at night, thinking of how you can help these families. No humility to kneel before them and report to them how you plan to serve them; accepting you are their servant and are supposed to be working for them, not the other way round.
In 2024, when I visited Stamford Bridge for the first time, I saw an old friend. I was happy to see a familiar face and almost wanted to ask how I could also get a job at Chelsea. Before I could say anything, he started explaining that he was just doing the work on the side. He tried to make it clear that he was bigger than that.
In my mind, I thought: Brother, you don’t have to explain anything to me. It’s honest work. Why do you feel the need to say it’s only something you do on the side?
I think we, Nigerians have been culturally and inherently conditioned to look down on certain job roles and occupations simply because of status. I can’t fully explain it, but I wish we placed more value on labor, especially honest labor.
"I did not find Bwala's interview funny. There was nothing to laugh about. Nigeria has failed. It is disheartening to find that Bwala is actually a senior lawyer." - Lady says
The biggest critic of the North is the Northern.
The greatest enemy of the North is the Northerner.
The one who has kept the North backward is the Northerner.
The one making the North insecure is the Northerner.
We make a mockery of ourselves, kill ourselves & hate ourselves.
The North has become its own worst enemy. This did not start today; it started with a elite total capture of the political state, the abdication of responsibilities by those elected to serve the populace, deliberate weaponization of poverty and illiteracy, nepotism & despotism.
The Enemy of Northern Nigeria is in Northern Nigeria. No need to look for phantom enemies or to construct some whimsical conspiracy theories; the Enemy of Northern Nigeria is from Northern Nigeria.
I’m campaigning against unfair changes to Indefinite Leave to Remain.
I delivered a letter to the Home Office signed by @AndreaEganGS, 70+ parliamentarians and 33 civil society groups.
These plans will divide communities and damage services.
Ministers must think again.
A bomb blast killed four people in Borno but the story is even sadder.
They were scavengers looking for scrap metal to sell, to survive. But the “scrap” they picked up was a bomb.
In war and insecurity, the most vulnerable always pay the highest price.
