The presentation of Letters of Commission by newly designated representatives provided an opportunity to further strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic and development partnerships.

I received Kannan Chockalingam, Consul General of India in Lagos; Maxime Bengaly, Consul General of Burkina Faso in Lagos; and Krittayawan Boonto, Country Director of @UnaidsNigeria, as they formally presented their Letters of Commission.

These engagements reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations, enhancing regional cooperation, and advancing global partnerships in support of shared development priorities.

At the Nigeria–EU Ministerial Meeting @NigeriaMFA, I engaged with @kajakallas, VP @EU_Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy @eu_eeas, to advance a more results-driven partnership anchored on sustainable development and security.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism, maritime security, and stabilisation efforts across the Sahel, while also advancing collaboration on migration, digital innovation, and economic growth. I highlighted Nigeria’s leadership in regional security initiatives, including the Regional Partnership for Democracy, and called for deeper EU engagement through technical support and investment.

We also reviewed progress under the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy, mobilising significant investments across clean energy, digital infrastructure, agriculture, transport, and human development, alongside opportunities in critical minerals, fintech, and industrial value chains.

Nigeria emphasised the need for balanced climate and trade frameworks, expanded market access, and practical mobility pathways that support skills, innovation, and shared prosperity.

Nigeria remains committed to a forward-looking and mutually beneficial partnership with the European Union; one that delivers tangible outcomes for our citizens and strengthens regional and global stability.
