He crossed the border illegally in 2023. He was caught and released.
He was arrested in Chicago in 2023 for shoplifting. He was released because the city refuses to cooperate with ICE.
He skipped his own court hearing in 2023. Nothing was done.

For three years he lived in Chicago with a warrant out for his arrest in a city that had decided, on principle, not to look.

Then he put on a black ski mask and shot an 18-year-old girl in the back.

There were three doors that should have closed on him.

The border opened the first.
The city opened the second.
The court opened the third.

And her parents drove home from college with their daughter in a coffin.

She should be alive.
