Not just St George's Hall, Liverpool that has floor tiles by Minton, Hollins & Co. These were laid during the original construction of Imperial Chambers, Dale Street in the 1860s.
Unlike modern tiles where the pattern is painted or glazed onto the surface, encaustic tiles are manufactured by inlaying different colours of raw clay. This means the pattern runs deep into the body of the tile.
The Victorian architects specifically chose this method for commercial buildings because the heavy, daily footfall of clerks and merchants wouldn't wear the design away.

Today is April fools day. No full council meetings took place at Essex County Council today and this is untrue as confirmed in the community note.

The truth however is that Reform UK controlled Durham and Warwickshire have instructed council officers to remove union flags.
