Iran team touches down in Los Angeles ahead of World Cup opener

Iran’s national football team arrived in the US on Sunday for its first appearance in the country during this World Cup, touching down at Los Angeles International Airport and holding a press conference on the same day a peace agreement between the two countries was announced.

The team traveled from Tijuana, Mexico, where it had been based, receiving an enthusiastic farewell before heading to Los Angeles for its opening match against New Zealand at Los Angeles Stadium on Monday.

"I am very happy to be representing the great, proud and strong nation of Iran," Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei said through a translator during a press conference at the stadium.

"I hope that football will bring about joy and enjoyment, and bring closer the cultures and countries."

As the Iranian squad made its way to Los Angeles, demonstrators advocating for government change in Iran and criticizing the country's leadership gathered near Los Angeles Stadium.
