Patients will now have option to pay for all elective surgeries allowed by CPSA in a non-hospital surgical facility, including hips, knees and cataract.
New regulations include doctors must work minimum number of hours in public system before taking part in private delivery- and family physicians cannot partake.
No privately paid surgeries will be allowed for life threatening procedures such as cancer and emergencies- those will remain under public.

🚨 New Medicaid work requirements will take effect on January 1, 2027.
As a result, in order to qualify for Medicaid benefits, recipients will now be required to work at least 80 hours per month.
To receive an exemption, recipients will have to PROVE, through endless paperwork and appeals, that they are “medically frail” and unable to work. The government has already said there are no conditions that will automatically qualify recipients for an exemption.
