At CITES COP28 in 2028, Norway has a historic opportunity — to propose Appendix I protection and end the international commercial trade that is compounding the climate crisis these bears already face.
Norway has banned polar bear hunting since 1973. Yet it's one of the world's largest importers of their skins — and cannot verify whether a single one is legally sourced.
His response to calls for a ban? "The day there's a total export ban, the price of the skins I already have will double. I am in no hurry to sell. This is my pension."
A 2022 government inspection found 23 of 37 skins had no traceable origin. Norway's own scientific advisors concluded Canadian hunting is likely unsustainable. The government ignored them.
The shop owner admitted on record to removing Canadian tags from skins — replacing them with his own — to deceive Chinese buyers into thinking the bears came from Svalbard.
Norway's national broadcaster NRK just published a major investigation into a secret polar bear skin warehouse in Bergen. They used footage from Trade Secret as primary evidence. https://t.co/VK73FsttTL
@PeterEgan6 did not realize this was their position. guess they don’t need my donation dollars. there should not be a single conservation group on the planet supporting sport hunting when wildlife populations are collapsing
The situation in Lebanon is dire, with many animals suffering due to ongoing conflict. Your support can make a real difference by providing urgent care and rescue for these vulnerable creatures. Please consider donating or sharing this message to help save lives during this crisis. https://t.co/KakuqoREjI

'Trade Secret' will have its Middle East premiere at XPOSURE in Sharjah on 31st January. I will be joined by wildlife journalist Adam Cruise for a post-screening discussion on the role of investigative wildlife filmmaking in modern conservation.
