Rabbi Dov Lando, one of "Israel’s" most influential ultra-Orthodox rabbis, criticized Zionism and expressed regret over the establishment of the "State of Israel" in newly released footage, while also criticizing the entity and both Religious Zionist and secular Jews.

Lando is the spiritual leader of the Degel HaTorah faction of the United Torah Judaism party, which is a key partner in Netanyahu’s coalition. According to Times of Israel, his views carry significant political weight, particularly on legislation concerning Haredi IOF service, which he strongly opposes, and on the stability of the government.

Lando said that Zionism “made Arabs hate us” and brought “physical disasters” upon the Jewish people. He also criticized the religious practices of Religious Zionists, said secular Jews lack a connection to Judaism, and referred to Zionists as “thieves.”

“I don’t know what would have happened if, at the beginning of the state, if there had been no state and they would have installed the UN as sovereign,” he said, adding that “The situation would have been excellent.”

He said, “It’s possible, without a state [of Israel], to live well with the Arabs… to live, to respect the Arabs. It was pretty good when the Arabs were in charge. It was the best situation.”
