Veronica Is Considered a Mainline-Level Resident Evil Title.
At the beginning of the presentation, attendees were shown a recap video covering the events of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3, after which producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi took the stage.
He emphasized that Code: Veronica has always been regarded as one of the most important entries in the franchise and that its significance is comparable to that of the numbered titles in the series.
According to Hirabayashi, the story of Resident Evil begins with the mansion incident in the first game and continues with the Raccoon City events of Resident Evil 2. From there, Leon's storyline progresses through Resident Evil 4 and ultimately Resident Evil Requiem.
At the same time, Code: Veronica serves as the direct continuation of Claire Redfield's story.
He also noted that both Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker play major roles in the narrative, making Veronica a title that can rightfully be considered on the same level as a main numbered entry in the series.
Hirabayashi added that, with the remake, the team is rebuilding the original game's dramatic structure from the ground up, adapting it to modern standards of storytelling and game design while preserving the core essence of the original experience.
“We were able to deliver the experience of playing as Leon in the Raccoon City incident with RE2 and then continue his story with RE4, so, one of the key motivations behind [remaking Veronica] was that we also wanted to tell the story of Claire after the events in Raccoon City.”
