@JSheltzer Interesting data. Money obviously is part of this transition. But this doesn't encapsulate the whole story. The toxic workplaces. The gatekeeping. The exploitation. Tenured academics despite throwing their arms up in the air saying nothing can be done. Are part of this problem.

Outside of it. You have the opportunity to create meaningful value to others in any space you wish to work in.

@ClementYChow Don't also forget academia does not equal science. The best science isnt done in academia. It will just take time for academia to catch up. The death of the postdoc postion should be celebrated. Maybe academia will finally realise who creates the value. Clue it isn't the PI.

@ClementYChow Ask yourself why this is. The postdoc postion is a relatively recent and made up postion which group leaders have been abusing for as long as the postion has existed. It's fundamentally designed to keep people in their place and disproportionately enrich the contractually secure

@Andrew_Akbashev On the flip side. You have argued successfully for why academia is broken and no it's not all down to university management. Academics are part of the problem that ends ironically in some of the least rigerous science being pumped out. For zip all gain for society.
