Lunging our way through our first official @theiamarkerless data collection. Excited to have this new addition to the @MemphisBiomech lab up and running!
What's the best predictor of your grades in college?
Not SAT scores, HS GPA, or your study time & habits.
It's whether you show up. Attendance is one of the best predictors of academic performance.
Same goes for any pursuit. Showing up is the most important part of performing
One of the best ways to learn is to teach someone else.
If you are struggling to make sense of learn a particular concept, try to teach a portion of it to a novice.
You will surprise yourself with the clarity that ensues.
"There are going to be biomechanists in every NBA basketball operation. There are going to be analysts. And coaches. The teams that integrate these 3 roles & forms of reasoning the best are the teams that will generate a competitive advantage"

@LeeSharpeNFL@tejfbanalytics I do some work with play-by-play and game summary data for our school, but have always been curious about some of these other metrics like epa, wpa, elo ratings, etc. any good comprehensive sources on definitions?
Exciting summer camp within @UofMHealthSci!
This sport science camp, hosted by @Acarnall85, is a week-long immersive experience for high school students who are engaged in athletics, or who may be interested in pursuing higher education in a sport science field!
Check it out!
@ScientistSports@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC Agree. Folks with the experience and qualifications to do a great job come with bigger price tags than (smaller $) departments will accept. Lacking a full-time sport scientist isn't a liability issue either at the moment, making them a flashy accessory vs. a budgetary necessity.
@ScientistSports@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC I have 2 reasons I went through the process. Your last point may be the most salient, and it feels like NSCA tried to account for that by combining academic credentials & experience for CPSS eligibility. Bigger issue may be institutions defining 'sport science' for themselves.
@ScientistSports@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC "Not sure that ________ the best path forward"
Do you mean (a) the certification itself, (b) the use of it as a 'screening' tool, (c) the NSCA being the one to offer it, or (d) all of the above?
@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC @ScientistSports I don’t think you mean this the way it reads. I read this as: a PT using catapult cannot be sport science.
We both know that with the right PT asking/answering the right questions, it can be.
What I think you mean is what Pat said below re: indiscriminate title assignments.
@JoeD_Strength @PPetersonSC To be counted was to have ‘science’ or ‘scientist’ in job title on athletics staff directory.
A&M has 6 such cases inc. ‘fellow’ roles. On the other hand, 2/3 of LSU’s ‘performance innovation’ team don’t meet this criteria. I guess you could say some got in, some got left out
