Q: How does the #Ebola virus spread from one person to another?
A: Ebola spreads through direct contact with the blood, body fluids, or tissues of an infected person, including someone who has died from the disease. It can also spread through contaminated objects such as bedding, clothing or medical equipment. Health workers and caregivers are at higher risk if infection prevention measures are not strictly followed.
Q: What are the common signs and symptoms of #Ebola infection?
A: Common symptoms include sudden fever, weakness, headache, muscle pain and sore throat. As the disease progresses, patients may develop vomiting, diarrhea, rash, stomach pain and, in some cases, bleeding. Symptoms can appear between 2 and 21 days after exposure to the virus.
Q: Which groups of people are most at risk of getting #Ebola?
A: People most at risk include hunters, family members caring for infected relatives, health workers without adequate protective equipment, laboratory personnel handling samples, and individuals involved in unsafe burial practices. Communities with frequent population movement or limited access to healthcare may also face increased risk during outbreaks.

Effective May 20, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), CDC initiated public health entry screening for travelers arriving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), South Sudan, and Uganda. Effective May 22, 2026 at 11:59 PM EDT, operations have expanded to include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). CDC’s Port Health Protection system operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to support these and other public health response activities at U.S. ports of entry.
Public health entry screening serves as an important part of CDC’s layered prevention approach. In combination with existing public health measures already in place to identify symptomatic travelers, these efforts help slow and reduce the potential spread of disease into the United States.
Travelers who have been in the DRC, South Sudan, or Uganda within 21 days prior to arriving in the United States will be escorted to a designated airport screening area. There, travelers will answer public health screening questions and may undergo additional assessment as needed.

Climbing into a spacewalking suit for a training session.
I'm wearing padded long underwear full of cooling tubes. To get into the Orlan, you open the back like a fridge, perch in the door, hook up all connections, and slither inside.
The life support equipment (air scrubbers, temp control) is in the backpack.
We call it a spacesuit, but it's really a 1-person spaceship.
After a yearlong investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board blamed multiple systemwide failures for the midair collision of an Army Black Hawk helicopter and American Airlines regional jet that killed 67 people.

Why is it so hard to make a working toilet fit for space travel?
—The space environment—microgravity, extreme temperatures and more—make it near-impossible to truly test a space toilet like Artemis II's ahead of launch.

In 2022 a Boeing 737-800 passenger jet plunged 29,000 feet and crashed into a mountain in southern China, killing all 132 on board —newly released data suggests someone in the cockpit may have intentionally switched off the fuel supply to the engines.

WHO is aware of and supporting a public health event involving a cruise vessel sailing in the Atlantic Ocean. To date, one case of hantavirus infection has been laboratory confirmed, and there are five additional suspected cases. Of the six affected individuals, three have died and one is currently in intensive care in South Africa.
Detailed investigations are ongoing, including further laboratory testing, and epidemiological investigations. Medical care and support are being provided to passengers and crew. Sequencing of the virus is also ongoing.
Hantavirus infections are typically linked to environmental exposure (exposure to infected rodents’ urine or faeces). While rare, hantavirus may spread between people, and can lead to severe respiratory illness and requires careful patient monitoring, support and response.
WHO is facilitating coordination between Member States and the Ship’s operators for medical evacuation of two symptomatic passengers, as well as full public health risk assessment and support to the remaining passengers on board. WHO is grateful for the rapid actions and coordination.
