Richard Leggett’s nostalgic account focussed on all things Acorn Computer. I do other tweets elsewhere. Grew up on the Elk/BBC, worked at Acorn in the 1990s.
NEW ARRIVAL! Before the iPad, there was the Acorn NewsPAD (1996).
Only two prototypes known to be still in existence, this rare prototype tablet was donated by its designer! While most 90s publishers dismissed digital news, Acorn saw the future.

Acorn A4 was the 1992 ARM laptop that quietly saw the future: RISC OS, A5000 DNA and a paper-sized body before ARM ruled mobile computing. A rare British vintage computer that deserves another look.

Before the iPad, Acorn built NewsPAD: a 1990s ARM-powered tablet made to imagine digital newspapers. Not a failed gadget, but a prototype from the future arriving too early. Retro tech history worth rediscovering. #Acorn https://t.co/d1bDSNmvjx
"Fuelled by Acorn's innovative ARM RISC processor, the Archimedes offer workstation power and spectacular graphics abilities at PC prices, with their place in education already assured . .
We now have our very own music streaming service called Sugar Water! The only music on there is The British IBM, and there probably wasn’t a whole lot of point in making it—but sometimes it’s fun to just make stuff for the sake of making stuff. https://t.co/fZmT8Knvxb
Electroniq WIP. Added live disassembly (because why not 😎) and an initial manual disassembly window (F3) to my online Acorn Electron emulator 👉https://t.co/TKXZdrycuh
There was a website at https://t.co/F9zM2FwD20 which is sadly not available anymore. You can get to it through the Internet Archive wayback machine, but without photos, alas.
Just rediscovered this booklet from the 2008 Acorn 30th anniversary event for former employees and others associated with the BBC Micro project. Also found a stack of photos, but not sure who took them - pretty sure it wasn’t me!
Electroniq WIP. Showing the main menu where you can insert/eject/save/create media (tape/disk/sdcard). There are 2 disk drives now. Loading/saving compressed tape files now supported. You can also load media straight from GitHub, or drag&drop local files onto my online emulator

Well, I've now featured all the #teletext50 exhibition artists, except me. So I dunno, think I'd better dump some of my stuff here... 🤷😁
The event will be on 🇫🇮 Yle Text for one more week until 11th November 2024!

This is an Acorn account, so I resist tweeting stuff about other retro hardware. But whilst Acorn was my first love in the 80s and 90s, I do have a real soft spot for a lot of the Macs of that era and this site is just incredible...
Returning to the Acorn Electron, which was my first computer, I've written a converter for MS-DOS beeper music to the Electron's ULA. The ULA uses a simple counter for sound, and there's no volume control - what you're hearing is a single channel using arpeggios.
