RIP: Jackie, the beloved bald eagle whose adult life was chronicled on a live webcam at Big Bear Lake, has died, the Ojai Raptor Center announced Monday. Story: https://t.co/hUiWZ3u1e2
**Jackie is gone. 💔🦅**
For years, we watched her beside Shadow in the Big Bear nest. We watched her sit through snowstorms, defend her family, raise eaglets, weather heartbreaking losses and return season after season to the mountains she called home.
After more than three weeks of intensive medical care, **Big Bear’s beloved bald eagle Jackie died early this morning.**
Thousands of people around the world were hoping for one more update. One more improvement. One more chance to see her flying over Big Bear Lake and returning home to Shadow.
That flight home will not come.
But Jackie leaves behind something much bigger than a final medical chapter. She leaves **14 years of wild moments, a family raised with Shadow, and a legacy that changed the way countless people see bald eagles and the wild places they need.**
We put together Jackie’s story, from her Big Bear beginnings to the extraordinary life so many of us were fortunate enough to witness.

The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District is saddened to learn of the passing of Jackie, the beloved bald eagle who captured the hearts of so many.
Our firefighters were honored to play a small part in helping Jackie receive veterinary care after she was found injured. While we had all hoped for a different outcome, it was inspiring to see our community and people around the world come together with such compassion and concern for her well-being.
As our national symbol, the bald eagle represents strength, freedom and patriotism. Jackie’s story was a meaningful reminder of that spirit and of the connection we share with our local wildlife.
We are grateful to everyone who cared for Jackie, followed her journey and came together in support of her. Special thanks to Friends of Big Bear Valley, County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation San Dimas Raptor Rescue, and The Ojai Raptor Center for their dedicated efforts, compassion and care for Jackie throughout this difficult journey.
