This week Ontario will experience #extremeheat weather. We know extreme heat doesn't affect everyone equally. For many members of our community, finding a cool, safe place can be challenging.
Let's work together so everyone has access to care and support they need 💙
🌱 Learning farms and community farms! Those were two new things I learned at the National Food Security Strategy Echo Announcement led by Minister @gary_srp and MP @DolyBegum.
Community food interest organizations spoke about their connection with community farming. These community gardens are important for feeding the growers and providing fresh produce to food banks and local farmers' markets.
Researchers from @uoft also shared interesting work comparing interplanting (different plant groupings) with monoplanting (growing the same type of plant), and how it can impact carbon dioxide and methane emissions.
The strategy also includes $20 million through the Local Food Infrastructure Fund's Community Support Stream to help food banks and community food organizations across Canada acquire and distribute nutritious food.
