An article in Harper's Magazine describes how Spotify undermines independent artists. In 2017, the company launched its "Perfect Fit Content" (PFC) program, which replaces indie artists' music with cheaper tracks.
PFC tracks are often created by musicians working on a contractual basis, who feel that the system is unfair but do it anyway because they need the money.
