@JuliaHB1 this stuff makes absolutely no difference to the governments expenditure. The only question here is the last one - is he improving the country, and we don't know because it's week 1
@mypalfootfoot7 anyone who wants one of those jobs knows that the course will help them get it. if they can't get in to the course that's not because they didn't know and not because the others who got in 'cheated'
@redrumlisa no, I think if people want public services it's good for them to pay a bit towards them, that includes pensioners.
bring back the 10p rate if you want, but having a lot of people paying nothing I don't think is helpful
@danazzo3@torysc_mout well some of them do pay tax, so that's ok, and I would kind of like it if more people paid tax, even if only a small amount so they think about what it gets spent on. So I think the tax free allowance should be lower than the state pension
look china doesnโt even need to kill american labs. it only needs to compress expected returns enough that private (maybe soon public) capital stops financing training runs.
american labs must eventually produce margins. china can treat frontier intelligence as strategic infrastructure & accept no direct financial return at all.
in essence america prices financially. china prices geopolitically.
@MarkGladman5@normanbluecoll1 I think the OECD proposed a minimum wealth tax where you could offset all other tax against it, eg if you owe ยฃ10m wealth tax but paid ยฃ5m income tax then you only have ยฃ5m wealth tax. I think that kind of thing is reasonable
@tomhfh I'm not at all convinced about this. The problem is it's a monopoly and so no private company has any incentive to do anything good that's not a statutory obligation
