@csoppenhuizen @anthonypadovano Apparently you can access the full video episodes of Gaki no Tsukai subtitled via Reddit, although I haven’t tried yet.
@csoppenhuizen It’s a bit boring if a suggestion at this point, but the original I Am Legend by Richard Matheson is my favorite novel of all time. I also liked Esau by Phillip Kerr, and Masks by Fumiko Enchii is also a favorite.
The highlight of my semester so far: a freshman student in my office hours mentions that they like history because it’s often reminiscent of reality TV, which leads to a conversation about how George Washington was a messy bitch that loved drama. Excellent.
I’m glad that I do most of my kobun/kanbun practice and reading in my apartment because I apparently whistle entire concerts to myself during. Anyone else have any strange quirks while they work in a secondary language? #gradschool#Japanese
I just had another solid session at the gym. I feel alive and motivated for the rest of the work I have to do today. If only I could deal with this pesky (read: “crippling”) body dysmorphia! #weightlifting#gradschool
@LizWFab Because there is a secret high-society market for academic books that are displayed prominently on bookshelves like expensive art at parties. Guests admire the craftsmanship of individual volumes while sipping expensive scotch and pretending to understand their deeper meaning.
Made some tacos for lunch today and then finished off the leftovers after working around the house a bit. Sitting here with the realization that I just ate half of a red onion between my two meals and not quite sure what to do with that information.
The sudden shift in temperature in Japan has made me realize just how excited I am for winter. I hope it snows before I leave, although that’s unlikely in Tokyo. Snow makes me happy.
Nothing helps stave off the ever-present sense of crisis trying to finish this PhD has foisted upon me like a good workout. Thank (insert deity of choice here) for deadlifts! #phdlife#weightlifting
