In a World-Herald op-ed, former Republican State Sen. John McCollister writes why he is supporting Lynne Walz ahead of the November election. https://t.co/ZzaQ9fRrm1
OMG — in what universe is it OK for the “U.S. Government” to pay for political ads for @realDonaldTrump ? It’s improper and illegal under any interpretation of election laws
Dude is a hog consolidator, from genetics to slaughter. More of a banker than labor. I’ve never really thought he should try to play a farmer card. A lot of farmers from the 90s and early 2000s aren’t big fans of these guys. But maybe these days it’s just capital preaching to capital to try to get working people on board. Weird world.
Just in: OPINION from former chair of Appropriations, which constructs the NE state budget:
Careless budget decisions threaten state’s stability. (Wow)

Months before Gov. Jim Pillen recommended her for a $2.5 million no-bid contract, Julie Bushell sought to have state dollars earmarked for technology that state experts were dubious of. No one told the lawmaker she was lobbying.

They forced through bad policy by combining irresponsible and magic math tax cut bills with incentive and university funding packages that made it near impossible to vote against. Single subject for thee but not for me.
If you don’t like the forecast, change the forecasters. Ironically, both new appointees, Senators Linehan and Briese, were the architects of the revenue mess we are in.
Papik is right. And there is away to avoid the generality problem: require some connection between different pieces of legislation. Making changes or additions to the state’s law that are necessary or natural in light of other additions or changes makes sense. /
It’s just a bunch of morons. Covid era spending took the form of, in part, tax spending. When Feds do that and spend printed/deficit money, it’s so big that it pumps money into the economy and devalues the dollars. Instead of holding steady on rates and tax expenditure to ensure we can collect revenue at the same pace in light of the inflation we all know is coming, we do more tax spending. All expenses are going up, even if you don’t want to do anything new. Fundamentally unserious governance at the state level. Or, frankly, incompetence. But hey, that’s politics.
“This was never about protecting Nebraska law,” Eggers said. “It was about whether a handful of elected officials could use the courts to override the will of the people. Today, our state’s highest court stated the obvious: they cannot.” https://t.co/u47Ht5N1nw
Lancaster County election officials have referred to law enforcement more than 13,300 signatures suspected to be fraudulent on three petitions seeking to reshape Lincoln elections. https://t.co/WioL0xIipC
The only way that 65% of a petition's signatures could be rejected is if there was some kind of fraud taking place. That number is absolutely staggering. I worked on a petition for two years. We had nearly 90% of our signatures get accepted. What they did is criminal.
Federal legislation ("One Big Beautiful Bill Act") will cost #Nebraska state govt c. $100 million per year for next four years, state Dept. of Revenue estimates: https://t.co/Kq7NVXaDpO
I’ve never been to a Nebraska football game in Lincoln, but it sure sounded like one last night at Arrowhead.
After filling our hotels, restaurants, bars, museums, and shops in Kansas City and the surrounds the last several days, y’all Cornhuskers are welcome back anytime.
