I like Madueke as a player (don’t shoot me).

I think it’s a great option as a back-up to Saka, especially when you compare him to last year’s option: Sterling.

The timing of the bid and the optics are what I don’t understand.

Willing to walk away from Sesko’s valuation, willing to step back from Gyokores negotiations over €4m and finer details and trying to secure a deal currently with Palace for Eze.

The optics of a £50m bid for Madueke (the price that Chelsea have asked for) surely isn’t going to help you in any of those conversations, particularly when the other positions are more of a priority.

Let’s see how it pans out.

P.s - some of the reaction and vitriol towards Madueke is embarrassing. If you genuinely feel that emotional about a football club signing a player - have a word with yourself, seriously.

Imo it’s the wrong decision by Ødegaard but he’s making it bc he’s expecting someone to run through the middle and wants the retreating WHU defence to have to spread wider accordingly. More threats to account for, more gaps. It’s a trained move we’ve done many times since 22/23.
