Excoriating words from @1SVN:
“The govt must take a long, hard look at whether @ace_national is fit for purpose.”
“The govt needs to take responsibility & act. They must step into the #Opera space before ACE ruins it for good.”
@lisanandy we need action! @DCMS#SaveWNO
Spirit-lifting evening at #ENOElixir: a witty, affectionate staging with lovely turns from romantic leads @rhianlois & @AtkinsTenor. As ever, the Chorus (2nd photo!) sound spectacular and give the production such momentum with their charisma & ceaseless energy. A *lot* of fun.
With a son who is half American we are holding our breath today… please vote and think of the rights of those more vulnerable than yourselves. Vote with your loved ones in mind whose lives will be impacted by Donald Trump’s fascist rhetoric. This is an extremely serious moment.
"We need to stand up for our company, for opera and for the arts. We believe they are worth fighting for"
- Welsh National Opera chorus and Equity member Philip addresses the audience during curtain call for Rigoletto at New Theatre Oxford.
When you #retire it rapidly becomes apparent that many people you thought were friends were merely acquaintances.
You'll never see or hear from them again.
The place where you work will forget you in a blink of an eye.
Bear that in mind when you're expected to go above & beyond
I couldn’t agree more and music is a part of all this. Let’s hope the PM can deliver this for our young. If there are State Schools (my grandson is in one in S London) which properly deliver The Arts, why not all? It’s not even aspirational, it’s surely mandatory.
Laura Kuenssberg is paid £325,000 a year
Chris Mason is paid £265,000
Sue Gray was paid £170,000
Sir Keir Starmer is paid £167,000
I'm not convinced that BBC political journalists should earn twice as much as the Prime Minister or his Chief of Staff
Wonderful opening night of the season @E_N_O with an old favourite #ENOBoheme. A brilliant production with a young cast which brought great life to the piece. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
And here we have part of the problem.
That an apparent “adviser to @DCMS” seems not to be aware that both @ScottishOpera & @E_N_O are now part-time companies (SO for 20 yrs now) beggars belief. Little wonder that the #Opera sector in the UK is collapsing. #SaveWNO 1/2 🧵
