It's finally release day for my next book!
Here's a few things people have said while reading pre-release versions
"I like the pace"
"Very well polished"
"Impeccable Flow"
Check my 📌 to find where you can read it
@KWBussard_@DirkBruere That's true, but I'd specifically expect them to use a blocker. I think targeting ads to readers who don't also write would be optimal and I'd be curious about their usage.
Ads are probably less effective on writers because a larger % of their reading time won't be for leisure
@KWBussard_@DirkBruere Well, including authors might bias your results.
For a long time, I didn't use them but when I got serious about writing again, I had to. I started running into auto play videos and games on sites like dictionaries
@DollyT222027 As a bonus, eye patches and hair covering one eye are also just plain cool. Especially if the person has a secret eye they hide until things get serious
Wow, it is true nobody is buying books anymore.
I guess the silver lining is that the few who still do only consider indie writers, like me who has original books available that you could read instead of mass market slop, AI writing or fan fiction
Indie authors and publishers, here's some raw stats from the Simon & Schuster / Penguin anti-trust hearings, just in case you thought your books aren't selling well. According to publisher testimony:
50% of all Big-5 published novels sell less than 12 copies
66% sell less than a 1000
98% sell less than 5000 copies.
So, if you sell 13 copies, you're ahead of half of the big-house novels. Food for thought.
@MillerDakotaJ Oof. We're cooked then
You pair that with the revelation that whenever a celebrity or politician sells a million copies, it's almost always a related organization buying and giving copies away
There really actually isn't anybody buying books...
@DollyT222027 I think that's less bad than an excessive number of sentences that start with "the" or "a" in third person or "I" or "my" in second and first
I've found those often correlate with writers who only use simple sentence constructions and it's already mandatory to have a ton of those
@DanNEO_SS All of my characters can tell time by the position of the sun and gauge time passed based on the moon, but I'm starting to think that's not a ubiquitous ability
My characters also often carry water because in the country you might find yourself miles from water
@PlotWeaver@MillerDakotaJ A lot of AI is merely branding. These same spellcheck, upscaling and pattern generation tools have existed long before gen AI did and they have barely changed
It's simple statistics.
You get out of the souless mass market pit and it's a coin flip whether an indie is a fresh commander of words or they commit war crimes with adverbs.
(😉I'm the former)
It’s different with me.
You don’t have to like my book, but you should read it.
- Why?
There is a greater than 50% chance that my books are better than 97% of what's being released in the traditional market today. 🫡
