Parents Charged With M¥rder After their 7-yr-Old Son Weighing 255 Pounds d+es of morbid obesity

A couple from Flint Township, Michigan, has been charged with second-degree m¥rder, child ab¥se, and torture following the d+ath of their 7-year-old son, whom prosecutors say suffered years of severe neglect.

Authorities said Damien and Jessica O’Brien’s son, Casper, d+ed after being rushed to the hospital on November 4, 2025, following a 911 call reporting a child in distress. Doctors determined that he d+ed from dilated cardiomyopathy, with morbid obesity listed as a contributing factor.

At the time of his d+ath, Casper reportedly weighed 255 pounds and stood 4 feet, 2 inches tall. According to health guidelines, a child of his age and height would typically weigh between 50 and 73 pounds.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton described the case as one involving “cruel and extreme suffering” caused by the parents’ alleged neglect.

Investigators also revealed that Casper had never been enrolled in school, adding that both he and his 5-year-old sister had essentially “never existed in the eyes of the government.” The O’Briens are scheduled to appear in court on July 2 to face the charges.
