VAF Mentorship | Day 12 🔐
Today, I explored spyware, keyloggers, infostealers, and password attacks.
I also learnt the importance of comparing login records, identifying suspicious patterns, and considering benign explanations before drawing conclusions.
I’ve started a beginner-friendly CompTIA Security+ series. I’ll break down practice questions and explain the concepts behind them.
Watch Episode 1, where I cover the exam, registration, and study plan:

VAFMentorship Day 11/28
Today’s task focused on identifying evidence of viruses, worms, and Trojan horses
I explored the endpoint and network evidence needed to investigate each scenario, from suspicious files and processes to unusual network traffic #Veenodelearn#Cybersecurity
In Cybersecurity, Communication is the key.
You might be great at finding vulnerabilities, but if you can't explain them clearly, your technical skills alone won't be enough.
Whether you're writing reports, explaining risks to clients or working with your team, how you communicate matters as much as you discover.
I don’t know what my life would look like if nobody had helped me.
But I know it would not look like this.
At different points in my life, scholarships and support from others gave me opportunities I could not have accessed on my own.
My story is incomplete without acknowledging that help.
I am a product of scholarships. I am a product of people making room for me.
That is a big part of why we founded The Victor Akinode Foundation (AI & Cybersecurity), @VAInitiatives.
When I think about the young people we want to support, I think about what receiving help has meant in my own life.
I think about how much can change when an opportunity becomes something you can actually afford to pursue.
There are young people across Africa and beyond who are ready to learn and willing to work. But willingness does not pay tuition.
Ambition does not remove a financial barrier.
Sometimes, someone needs to help.
I cannot reach everyone on my own. That is why partnerships matter to us.
Working with people and organisations allows us to bring more opportunities within reach of the young people who need them.
Through our partnership with Veenode Learn (@VeenodeLearn), we are offering 100 tuition scholarships in AI and Cybersecurity for next cohort (Cohort Arete).
For me, this is personal.
I cannot tell my story honestly without talking about the help I received. And I want the way I live to reflect that gratitude.
My hope is that, years from now, someone will look back on this opportunity and say, “That support made a difference for me.”
And perhaps they will make a difference for someone else.
Applications close October 24, 2026.

Finally 💃💃🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊
Alhamdulillah.
The proposal has been approved
The Kano state schools management board has given me the go ahead to take cybersecurity awareness to secondary schools.
Greater impact ahead

A security recommendation can be technically correct and still fail if it ignores the organisation’s reality.
Cybersecurity professionals need technical knowledge, but they also need to understand business priorities, operational constraints, customer impact, and risk tolerance. Security is not simply about saying “no”; it is about helping an organisation make informed decisions and protect what matters.
That does not mean weakening security to keep everyone happy. It means communicating risk clearly and finding workable ways to reduce it.
Should business understanding be a core cybersecurity skill, even for technical roles? Why or why not?

My name is etched in history.
One of 18 cloud SMEs selected globally to build the CompTIA Cloud+ exam. All-NBA level.
Only one in the room with a GED.
I put on for Atlanta, the 704, and the Chambers name.
