23 Senior Advocates of Nigeria!
There are people who deserve their flowers. Some should get the whole garden. Aarẹ is one of the latter.
I also love that some firms are actively equipping and positioning lawyers for the rank.
When people work in a place, they should see possibilities and be inspired. It should not just be about resuming and closing as the years run by.
Employers should show more interest in the career growth of their employees. That question "Where do you see yourself in the next 5/10 years" should not be asked for the sake of it. It is meant to see how a system can support its talents towards the realisation of their goals.
Employees now actively pay attention to those who got to a system before them and what became of them. If a litigation firm has a 5 to 10 year post-call attorney who doesn't have a single judgment to his name or panics when he hears about trial, it is not only on such lawyer, it is also on the firm, too.
A dog might have outgrown basic trainings, but we should also question the handler.
I attended a PTA meeting and the moment the media team started taking our pictures in the hall, I started thinking about the Data Protection Act, the use they could put our pictures to, and consent.
Sometimes, during domestic conversations, my brain is picking issues of law and analysing them.
Law life.
One of the worst characters for me on TV was from Ozark. Wendy Byrd’s brother. I understand he had mental health problems but wallahi he deserved to die.

The arrests and extradition of the suspects was made possible by the Proficiency of the men and operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC Nigeria ). A Testament to the collaboration between the FBI @FBI and EFCC
Dear @MTNNG , it is with a heart filled with joy I use to inform you that you have until 11:59pm Monday, 31st of August to duly respond to my comprehensive well broken down mail with a duly comprehensive report and review 🤝
A Nigerian lawyer @Big_Cadmus has called out men of the Nigeria Police Force for detaining is client unlawfully.
According to the lawyer, his client went to represent his daughter who was petitioned, arrested but was later granted bail and asked to appear on a particular date, however, the daughter couldn't honour the invitation because of an unforseen circumstance, his client voluntarily went and was detained.
Note that: his not even a subject of the petition
The laws are clear on this matter: arrest in lieu of a person is prohibited, see section 7 of the Administration of Crimal Justice Act and section 36 of the Police Act (2020 as amended).
This impunity is an affront to the provisions of chapter four of the Constitution of the FRN.
I'm joining my voice to call on the Lagos state police command to investigate and take necessary actions.
Please kindly lend your voice against this impunity by tagging the necessary authorities.

It was my distinct pleasure in Vienna to welcome participants to the Africa Policy Dialogue organised by the @Nigeria_ILA in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Justice of Nigeria, @Aluko_Oyebode, and the Embassy of Nigeria in Austria.
Be accountable for once @PoliceNG, we will not let this matter slide.
A car belonging to one @RbrnJerry was stolen but later recovered by the police, the owner identified the car after the recovery and was requested to pay a particular sum of money which he paid.
Only at the time which he was supposed to take possession of the car, he was informed that the car had been sold by some police men right in the police station.
This matter deserves the attention it needs, we must not keep quiet at the face of this injustice.
Remember, today may be Mr. Oguji Jeremiah Onyebuchi, tomorrow it may be you or me.
Let's help a brother to get justice, this must not be allowed.
Repost, quote and tag the necessary authorities until justice is served.

Now is the time for me to call out the Nigerian Police. @PoliceNG@NigeriapolicePR@TunjiDisu1
I thought it’s an established Law that arrest in lieu is unconstitutional and illegal??
Why was a father detained in Lagos SID over Daughter’s failed N9,000,000 illegal Naira trading deal with Someone else?
He has been in custody since Monday the 17th of August and I applied for bail yesterday but it wasn’t granted.
Please everyone tag Nigeria police, I will drop the full story below.
Lawyers who are always ready to settle out of court are generally smart and, at the same time, dangerous.
They are open to settling not because they are weak but because they, in some cases, believe it may be a pyrrhic victory for the parties involved at the end of the day.
When pushed to the wall or the other party unreasonably rejects a reasonable offer, they may go all out to ensure you learn a lesson.
There's a pattern of what seems like an irregularity at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja. I do not want to be quick to call it fraud or diversion, but it appears like an anomaly. I will speak to what I know and can prove.
So, there are some guys meant to enforce the no parking and no pick up rules around the airport. For instance, if you parked to make a quick call, they sneak behind your car, clamp it, and tell you about some rules against about not stopping or parking in some places.
They also tell you about the "written warning" placed on the road. If you ask them where the said warning is, they look around and when they cannot see anyone in sight, they say: "The law is the law and you will pay a fine of #25k at our office".
If you're unwilling to negotiate, they insist on you going to their office. It is a container painted red. When you get there, they talk about the no parking law at the airport and the fine. "You will pay #25k" penalty. "Okay, I don't want to miss my flight" or "The person I came to pick is already waiting. How do I pay?"
They ask you to bring your card, that one PoS guy is around. "Why am I paying to a random PoS guy. Isn't there a designated account for this purpose?" They point at one account on inner wall of their office reluctantly.
"That is it. But if you pay there, we will not release your car until they confirm it. It can take many hours or even days", but there is a PoS guy around. They step out, call unto one Aminu who rushes up to nominate an account. You take it, punches in the Opay or Moniepount or Palmpay numbers and it brings: "Sani Nasiru", "Bala Matazu", "Yahaya Matage" or whatever.
#25,000 goes into that account.
You do not have to wait for hours for "them" to confirm it.
They knew no one would wait for hours for the people in charge of the FAAN sanctioned account to confirm receiving the fee.
Even if they confirmed it, these guys are at liberty to tell you that they have not.
Every argument about generating receipts of payment and showing them will not work.
@FAAN_Official, @mikeachimugu01, is the authority aware of this practice and did it approve it?
If anyone knows that lady, tell her this: do a video, apologise to Mr Tony Elumelu and every other person who might have felt offended by her action. Say that it was an innocent mistake and you take responsibility for it. Reaffirm your respect to elder as a properly raised African child. Let the video trend too and watch what happens.
Goodluck
A lawyer sells services. Every time a lawyer opens their mouth or commits pen to paper to render advice, they draw from a well of years of rigorous study, practice, research, and investment.
Your service is the equivalent of the cars displayed at a car dealer's showroom. It is the meal a food vendor serves at a canteen. It is the designer outfit displayed in a reputable boutique.
If you would not walk into any of these places and take those things for free, no one should expect to receive your professional services without paying for them.
It is your duty to show people how you, as a professional, should be treated.
The right approach is to teach them to pay, or furnish other valuable consideration, before relevant professional counsel is given.
If it is valuable or it cost you a sweat to learn, they believe that you won't throw it about for free.
Get used to charging a consultation fee and raise it as your wealth of knowledge and eminence grow in practice.
It will also help keep some people away.
When we started M.A and A in 2023, entry level pay was about 100k and that bothered me so much for months. I was constantly praying for good briefs so as to increase salaries and set up other welfare packages for my staff. Today, no lawyer in our firm earns less than 250k as entry level and I am still not satisfied with it. This is a law firm that is not even upto 3 years, without any big or major client yet; and to augment our current pay, and welfare including HMO, December packages, we give room for private practice, either through their own sources or my referrals.
So when I read or hear about how law firms belonging to Senior Advocates of Nigeria, highly placed and successful lawyers, who have top clients, handle big briefs and live comfortably both publicly and privately, but pay their lawyers as low as 50k-100k, with nothing more not even HMO, I take pride in what I am doing.
One of my priorities as the owner of the firm is not even to make profits, because I am confident that it will come in the long run, but eagerness to make the lives of my lawyers and others better, at least financially. I believe that the better I pay and take care of people who are working for me, the more God blesses me. There are times I have decided to increase salaries without any money on ground and when it’s time to pay God has a magical way of coming through for us.
I am tempted to ask: what does it feel like as a boss with millions of naira in your account, dashing people money, living in houses worth hundreds of millions and ridding expensive cars, yet your staff cannot afford to feed and live meaningfully? Where is your conscience? Where is your humanity?
One sad reality is that NBA cannot do anything to make the lives of these young lawyers better. Every election year, NBA politician use “welfare of young lawyers” as campaign points but once an election finishes, everybody forgets about young lawyers.
It is well.
