If Black Africa is ever to progress, we must invest the time, money and effort we have so far invested in translating the Bible and Al-Quran to our indigenous languages into translating books on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics into our local languages. That must be our main priority going forward.

We have tried religion, and it has tried us, leading to all forms of complacency, mental laziness, confusing loafing about for faith, and creating homegrown terrorists like Boko Haram, Al-Shabaab and the Lord's Resistance Army.

But supposing we had local language textbooks, pamphlets and leaflets on how to engage in crop rotation, irrigation, decent hygiene, understanding microbiology, and utilising elemental forces scientifically.

We would not have such hunger and poverty in Africa if we did that. Because people will not find it tedious to read in their own native languages, and they will then get mentally equipped on the rudimental that they now pray for. Right now, a critical mass of our people are physically equipped but mentally lacking.

Instead of praying for food, we will farm more efficiently. Instead of trekking miles for water, we will sink a borehole or dig wells. We will not need to look for employment, because we will be better equipped to start small and medium-scale enterprises and use their newfound knowledge to access microcredit.

Through our understand of hygiene, we will not tolerate stagnant water in our communities, and once that is in effect, then malaria, the biggest killer in Africa, will be wiped out.

Rather than being afraid of witches and wizards killing their children, we will understand the benefits of immunisation and proactively take our children to receive vaccines rather than wait for them to catch preventable childhood diseases and die. Female Genital Mutilation will reduce with the attendant reduction in maternal mortality.

We will shut down the various biggest, largest and most expensive church auditoria in the world that we have in the poorest part of the world and turn Dumamis into a dynamic manufacturing hub that employs hundreds of thousands doing work with their hands rather than listening to one pastor cum politician and shouting amen to his cajoling words.

Redemption ground will be forced to convert to a factory for export from Monday to Saturday, and if they like, they can use Sunday to do as they please. Government owns all lands in Africa in trust for the people and can do what is in the people's best interest, and spending Sunday to Saturday in church is NOT in the best interest of any people anywhere. Go and WORK!!!

Finally, we will stop praying for good rulers and vote for good leaders. Because that is what educated people do.

What Africa needs is not necessarily religion. We need education more. But not just any education. We need democratisation and localisation of education in our various languages and dialects.
