Our statement on @WhiteHouse's immigration executive actions announced today and the bipartisan letter from members of Congress calling on @DHSgov and @USCIS to protect children of long-term visa holders and families affected by the green card backlog.
@anil_am22 They were already eligible but couldn't apply for adjustment of status due to their undocumented status. I support this change. Would help many mixed status families adjust.
@FederaleAgent@ImproveTheDream I read your article. I know Atulya. You referred to her multiple times on your article as illegal. She lived in the US with legal status all her life. You can potentially stay up to 3 years post-graduation on a post completion OPT status. Please do more research.
I couldn't stop crying as Roshan shared his story. What he and his family have been through are absolutely cruel. I was in Roshan's shoes many times in my life especially after a terrible accident made my mom (who was the primary H1B holder) bed ridden. We will bring Roshan back!
Roshan was forced to self-deport from the United States the day after this was filmed, despite having grown up here with a lawful status.
He works for a semiconductor company, which will now employ him in another country.
The US lost a taxpayer, he lost his family and his home.
@DgradUsph Omg. I cross the US/Canada border regularly. The difference is night and day. The CBSA officers are always in a jovial mood. They say things "Welcome", "Enjoy you trip". I have yet to hear that from a US CBP officer. Only "You can go"
@SriGaussian I support anyone that is involved in direct advocacy. But all of that seems to be stopped in the last few years. Instead, the strategy seems to have shifted to attack everyone else as being owned by billionaires or lawyers or distraction inducers.
You ain't nice if you are just doing it to get something done for you chief. Growing up in the south, I know the difference between nice and kind. It is important to be kind. That's the way you build allies who will go out to bat for you.
Question 5 — why can’t the people asking for equality be nicer
These individuals were the nicest group in Washington from 2006 to 2019. They gave flowers to people that cursed them. It got them nowhere. They are still very nice. But they realized no one is coming to save them
@SriGaussian Having seen more than enough messages from the country cap people about what they think of me or people like Dip in the background, I can confidently say that many of those people are not nice. Just pretending to be. That's what I was commenting on.
@SpeakSamuel I got my Canadian PR in a matter of a months. The officers were super responsive. When I entered Canada as a PR for the first time, all the officers at the border station got around and clapped for me. This is what a country which values immigrants looks like.
@katieporteroc Congresswoman Porter - Do you know about documented dreamers? These are children who arrived in the US legally on visas. Due to issues in current immigration law, they have to self-deport when they turn 21. They are excluded from DACA and many Dreamer solutions. @ImproveTheDream
@brianschatz Senator Schatz - Do you know about documented dreamers? These are children who arrived in the US legally on visas but due to issues in current immigration law have to self-deport when they turn 21. They are excluded from DACA and all Dreamer solutions. @ImproveTheDream
@Sam_endGCbcklog@TheDipPatel@FrescoLeon@ImproveTheDream The thing about expectations is that you need to actually say them out loud. People can't read your mind. Second, if you expect someone to do something, don't also accuse them of being funded by billionaires to sink your cause. That's a weird way to expect.
@meetkinjy@kothaikannan@ShadesOfBlueAn1@TheDipPatel@FrescoLeon This is the weirdest thing I have heard. Most parents that are involved in documented dreamer advocacy are also strong supporters of removing per country caps. Like any good parent, they just don't want their children to suffer.
@meetkinjy@ShadesOfBlueAn1@TheDipPatel@FrescoLeon The people who have aged out or on the verge of aging out are at most risk because of a wide variety of issues which I have repeatedly pointed out. You have to realize that fact and that's why @ImproveTheDream continues to fight for that group.
@Sam_endGCbcklog@TheDipPatel@FrescoLeon@ImproveTheDream has repeatedly endorsed country cap removal. They put out a statement asking for its passage. Defending EAGLE Act is not Improve the Dream's job. The organization is solely focused on advocating for children.
@meetkinjy@TheDipPatel@FrescoLeon None of this is true. In fact, I can argue that IV and related folks did so much damage to children in EB backlog by not even knowing the basics of their struggles and continuing to go on conspiracy theory fueled attacks.
We gave this cause everything we had. But it is time to acknowledge that we fell short this time. But we are in this for the long haul. We will come back stronger. Thanks to the kind human beings who helped us in our journey. I personally will never forget you!!
