When Essence was dominating the American music space, charting, making real cultural impact, and still didn’t win a Grammy, none of these music journalists or industry executives said a word. There was no outrage, no talk of “unity,” no sudden concern about fairness. It was treated as normal.

But now that their favorite, Davido, couldn’t win a Grammy with a song that is clearly sub-par compared to Essence, the same people have suddenly discovered the language of “unity” and injustice. That selective outrage tells you everything you need to know. Hypocrisy, in its purest form.
