@HilzFuld This may be surprising, but the Mail app has supported push since iOS 3 in 2009. It originally worked best with iCloud and Yahoo accounts. It also supports Microsoft Exchange (365) and most other accounts using IMAP IDLE. Gmail should work too but has limitations.
@HilzFuld That’s fair, but again this is Google’s fault not Apple. They decided not to enable push functionality unless you use their app. Push works fine in the Mail app for other types of accounts.
@HilzFuld Maybe not, but the chances of Google altering the Gmail app to make this work anytime soon are slim. It’s not an iPhone issue, it’s a an app issue. Personally, I prefer the Mail app in most cases, so I rarely use the Gmail app. But setting them both up is a simple one-time task.
@HilzFuld As an option, you can have your Gmail account set up in both apps. Then you get the best of both worlds. Just use the Mail app temporarily for this feature.
@HilzFuld Drag-and-Drop: Start your reply first, then minimize it by dragging the window down from the top bar. Open the other email and drag its attachment to the bottom. Hold it there for a second and your reply will pop back up. Release the dragged attachment into its compose window.
@HilzFuld Copy/Paste: Open the email containing the attachment, tap or long-press (touch and hold), then select Copy. Next, reply to your other email, tap in the compose area, and select Paste.
