@metricdisco@CatTheresaUK I also use both names, and have lived under a blend of the two for thirty years now. It was important for me to state clearly that i had a right to my birth name and also to shake the demand that I use my adoptive name. Naming yourself is a strong first step in emerging.
@TulipsisonBlair @sha_niaaaaaaa You could as easily say that about the adoptive family. Ongoing checks on the criminal acts perpetuated by adoptive families. In particular the high level of sexual abuse which occurs both on the nuclear and wider adoptive environment.
@sha_niaaaaaaa Guardianship not parenthood. Primacy of Rights of adopted person to history, culture, and heritage. Legislation against ‘sealed birth certificates’ (!!!) All payment for children banned. ‘Adoption Agencies’ to reveal their value as separate entities to religious bodies.
POLL: Do you believe a human being should be forever bound by the terms of a contract they didn't sign, didn't consent to, and didn't have legal representation for? 🗳
@ED_DocEm @jklmd123 @sha_niaaaaaaa We suffer from great confusion about identity- unsurprisingly as we have to spend our lives pretending to be the kids of people from wealthy countries who are infertile. It is an outrage.
@ED_DocEm @jklmd123 @sha_niaaaaaaa Guardianship, in those rare cases. No demand of a child to call people who are not their parents ‘mum and dad’. It puts a terrible pressure on people who are already devastated by loss. It’s indentured servitude. You have to pretend to be someone’s child to be cared for.
@ED_DocEm @jklmd123 @sha_niaaaaaaa The rare cases that are genuine should be covered by guardianship. The great majority is ecomnomic people-trafficking. It has a terrible impact on the people who are trafficked. Adopted people are 4 times more likely to kill themselves than bio-kids.
@ethericglow I also watched it and was quite triggered. There’s a bit where the adoptee states the fact ‘you’re not my real mum’ and the hurt on Sandra Oh’s face is the focus and point of the scene. The confusion of the child is not explored and the Emperor’s New Clothes moment unrecognised
@badjin_rank @lucehoneychurch @lizzieharvie@malloryschwarz Wow. That’s horrible. People are saying they’re traumatised and you’re calling it stupid. Do you think your child could ever tell you that they find the fact of their adoption traumatic?
@badjin_rank@lizzieharvie@malloryschwarz Yes, we are definitely saying that adoption is bad. Why did you say ‘most certainly not?’ What impetus drove that? What were you trying to suggest?
