ADOS needs to be an ethnic designation.
The U.S. has deliberately created a caste system designed to purposely have ADOS as a permanent bottom class; contagion to wealth. Lacking an ethnic designation further politically, socially, and economically disenfranchises ADOS. (1)

From 1790 – 1840 we were labeled “Slaves” on census.
• Our ancestors were undocumented as there was “no notation of slave by name, age, sex, or origination appears. The census counted slaves under the owner’s name.”
• Census takers used white supremacy’s “one drop” rule. (3)
ADOS needs to be an ethnic designation.

As well as aids in the erasure of ADOS’s history, cultural identity, and influence. The lack of an ethnic designation has made it impossible to fully comprehend the unique challenges endured by ADOS from the legacy of slavery. ADOS needs to be recognized as an ethnicity. (2)
On the 2020 census we’re labeled as “Black” & “African-American”.
• 1st census not to include “Negro,” since 1940.
• 1st time the bureau has added space on the census questionnaire for Black/African-American & White “participants to write in their non-Hispanic origins”. (8)
From 2000 – 2010 we were labeled
“Black”, “Negro”, & “African-American” on census.
• 2000 census was the first time “African-American” appeared & respondents were allowed to pick more than one race for the first time.
• 2010 census was the last time “Negro” appeared. (7)
