The federal government’s decision to extend its firearms amnesty once again is an admission that its firearm confiscation scheme is ineffective and deeply flawed.
Ottawa should make the amnesty permanent and abandon its plan to confiscate legally acquired firearms from law-abiding Canadians. Gun confiscation programs will never stop gang violence, cross-border gun smuggling, and the criminal misuse of firearms. We will continue to use every lawful tool at our disposal to shield Albertans from any form of firearms confiscation.
Alberta believes in a principled, evidence-based approach to firearms policy that targets violent criminals and illegal guns, not responsible firearms owners who follow the law.
(And yes. That is a picture of me skeet shooting with friends.)
Last week I was in Ontario and was able to meet with the Honourable Marjorie Michel to discuss matters of mutual interest. I appreciated our open and frank discussion as Alberta continues our work to increase access to and improve our health care system.
I also met with the MP for Red Deer, Burton Bailey, and the Leader of the Opposition, and appreciated the opportunity to connect on shared priorities and perspectives.
To close the week off, I had a productive meeting with my colleague, the Honourable Sylvia Jones, Ontario’s Minister of Health, as well as several health care business leaders, to discuss innovation and opportunities across the sector.
It was great to share what’s happening in Alberta and learn from others as we work to strengthen health care across the country.
I've heard questions from Albertans and front-line workers about the recent Emergency Health Services rebranding, and I share their concerns.
On Monday, I directed EHS-Alberta to immediately halt the rebranding and return to the previous name and logo until further engagement can take place with Albertans and contracted providers. This needs to be done at the right time and with the right input.
I want to assure Albertans that no operational funding was spent by EHS-Alberta on this project. No additional changes have been made to uniforms, ambulances, or other assets since the launch.
I look forward to EHS-Alberta sharing more details about future engagement as they become available.
Exciting news - The Alberta Find a Provider website now lists a record high of over 1,000 primary care providers accepting new patients across the province, including over 900 physicians and over 60 nurse practitioners!
This milestone reflects real progress in accessing primary care across the province. From walk-in clinics to family practices, Albertans in Edmonton, Calgary, and beyond have more options than ever before to connect with the care they need, when they need it.
Great news for women’s health in Alberta!
Thanks to a generous $5 million gift from Harold and Betty Allsopp, Alberta’s first dedicated women’s cardiovascular health clinic will be established at South Health Campus, helping more women access specialized cardiovascular care closer to home.
This gift will make a lasting difference for Alberta women for generations to come.

One Card. That’s it.
Starting July 2, Albertans can get a new driver’s licence or ID card that includes their healthcare number and proof of citizenship, all on one secure card at no additional cost.
No more flimsy paper cards. No more carrying multiple pieces of ID. Just a common-sense change that makes life easier.
Today we announced $809 million in new investments to strengthen surgical services, including expanding operating room capacity and upgrading hospital infrastructure, alongside the implementation of the first phase of patient-focused funding to modernize how surgeries are delivered and funded.
Alberta completed a record 332,847 surgeries last fiscal year, exceeding both the annual target and the previous year’s total, with monthly volumes reaching a record high of 24,676 surgeries in March 2026.
We are building on this momentum to improve access to surgery and ensure Albertans receive the care they need, when and where they need it.
Exciting day for Alberta oil and our economy. Southbow has successfully completed its open season for its 550,000 barrel per day ‘Prairie Connector’ pipeline to the United States. This means thousands of great jobs for Albertans and Canadians for pipeline construction and the new oil production facilities and operations needed to fill it.
This investment was not possible 2 years ago under Trudeau’s and Guilbeault’s economic attacks on our province. But with the Alberta-Ottawa Energy Agreement in place and those 2 terrible laws and destructive politicians gone, we are on our way!
Just another sign that Alberta has turned the tide and our future is brighter than ever.
I call on the federal government to unequivocally support this project and provide any and all necessary permits when ultimately required.

I am honoured to step into the role of Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services and look forward to continuing the important work of delivering high-quality healthcare to Albertans.
Happy World Family Doctor Day!
Today, we recognize the family physicians across Alberta who are often the first point of care and a constant source of support for Albertans throughout every stage of life.
From preventive care to managing complex conditions, family doctors play a vital role in the health and well-being of Albertans.
Thank you to all family doctors for the compassion, dedication, and continuity of care you provide every day.
Great news Alberta!
A critical milestone has been reached under the Canada-Alberta energy agreement (MOU) so that our province can expect approval from the Federal Major Projects Office for actual construction of the West Coast Pipeline on or before September 1, 2027.
When achieved, this would be the fastest approval of a major oil pipeline from Alberta in a generation!
This project will deliver 1,000,000 new barrels of Alberta oil every single day to new Asian markets, creating jobs, strengthening our economy, and generating a phenomenal amount of wealth for Albertans and Canadians for decades to come.
And just as importantly, Alberta has successfully fought to permanently end Justin Trudeau’s punitive oil and gas production cap and roll back his absurdly high industrial carbon price to a much more realistic level that will save our job creators over $250 billion and protect the livelihoods of Alberta workers.
This is what happens when Alberta stands strong.

Today, I am joined by Prime Minister Mark Carney to take the next major step to get a new West Coast oil pipeline built and bring Canadian energy to the world. https://t.co/7mEDQmbjKC
With the Andes hantavirus outbreak generating significant media coverage, I want to reassure Albertans that the risk in our province remains very low. There were no Albertans onboard the MV Hondius cruise ship.
Unlike other jurisdictions, only two Albertans were potentially exposed while travelling on a flight. They remain healthy, symptom-free, and are isolating at home, with health officials checking in daily. Anyone else considered low risk has been contacted and is monitoring for symptoms.
It is important to remember that person-to-person transmission of this virus has only been documented following prolonged close contact. There is no evidence that asymptomatic individuals can spread the virus to others. While the risk in Alberta remains very low, we will continue monitoring the situation closely to help protect Albertans.
During Catholic Education Week, we recognize the important role Catholic education plays in supporting students, families, and communities across Alberta.
We celebrate the dedication of educators and staff who help create positive learning environments where students can learn, grow, and prepare for the future.
Happy National Nursing Week!
This week, we recognize the incredible nurses across Alberta whose skill, compassion, and dedication support patients and families every day. Whether in hospitals, clinics, long-term care, emergency response, or community settings, nurses play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to Albertans.
Join us in celebrating and thanking nurses during National Nursing Week.
Alberta is taking action to meet the growing demand for skilled trades. Today, we will announce a major investment in NAIT to expand student capacity and prepare more Albertans for careers in technology and the trades https://t.co/v8XBnZHA4b
The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation have made a historic $93.5 million gift to the Women and Children's Health Research Institute at the University of Alberta, the largest gift in the university’s history.
This extraordinary investment represents a significant advancement for health research and will help drive new discoveries, improve treatments, and strengthen care for women and children across Alberta.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation for their leadership and generosity in supporting such vital and impactful work.
It was wonderful to speak at the Alberta Christian Leadership Summit and to be joined by so many of my colleagues and leaders from across Alberta.
From caring for the vulnerable to serving others with compassion and faith, your work reflects the values that help make this province strong and free. And I was proud to share how those same values continue to guide our government.
