working on something for quicksay this week that i’ve wanted to build since day one.

not ready to show it yet. but if it works the way i think it will, it changes how the whole app feels.

two weeks posting here. things i’ve noticed:

- indie builder community is more supportive than i expected
- honesty about not knowing what i’m doing lands better than faking it
- still no idea how the algorithm works

fixed garbled hyphenated words
switched the AI model
added 4 formatting modes
built an onboarding wizard
rewrote the settings UI twice

solo dev, no CS background, shipping daily. still surreal.

autohotkey v2.

yes, the macro scripting language. for a real product

it’s good at what i needed: system tray, global hotkeys, windows APIs. no electron eating 500mb of ram.

sometimes the weird choice is the right one.

@chrgerloff I built a voice-to-text app for Windows. I got tired of using Wispr flow and paying a monthly subscription, so I just built my own.

I'm tired of everything being a monthly subscription these days. Mine will be 1 time purchase.

tried something yesterday: dictated every email i sent instead of typing.

thought it would feel weird talking to my computer. it did, for about ten minutes.

then it just felt fast. like i’d been doing things the slow way this whole time.

@chrgerloff the technical stuff i get. writing something that doesn't feel like a press release is genuinely harder.

though the posts i spend the least time on usually do the best. still haven't fully accepted that

@chrgerloff whisper handles common dev terms pretty well, struggles with niche ones. there's a custom dictionary for that, add your jargon once and it sticks.

honestly that use case is basically why i built it

i'm not a developer. at least i wasn't six months ago.

i was a bartender. ran a restaurant for six years. closest thing i had to coding experience was fixing the POS system when it crashed.

now i'm building desktop software. no idea how i got here either.
