🇺🇸 In 2013, 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson was found dead at Lowndes County High School in Valdosta, Georgia.

His body was found headfirst inside a gym mat stored upright.

Investigators said he’d been reaching for a shoe, got stuck, and suffocated.

The death was ruled an accident.

But his family never accepted that. They had the body exhumed and a second autopsy found his brain, heart, lungs and other organs were gone.

The cavities had been packed with newspaper before burial.

The pathologist also found there was blunt-force trauma to the neck consistent with inflicted injury.

Officials stood by the accident ruling and 13 years on, the case remains disputed.
