Received one of the best compliments I’ve ever gotten at the gym today and it had nothing to do with how big or how strong I am. In between sets I saw a female custodian picking up a bunch of trash someone left on the cable machine. I hurried over and helped her clean up apologizing that people can be such pigs in the gym. After helping her, I thanked her for what she did to keep the gym clean and take such great care of us. As I walked back to my machine, an older gentleman in amazing shape stopped me, put his hand out to shake mine, and said, “You are a good person”. Five simple words and it absolutely made my day. The incredible people and staff at the gym, janitors and custodians especially, are often looked down upon, underappreciated, and treated with such disrespect. They are the people who keep gyms clean and disease free for us. If janitors and custodians disappeared for one day and we all had to workout in a dirty gym, we would ALL learn very quickly how important they are and STOP taking them for granted and START appreciating them more. Please, the next time you’re at gym kindly take a moment to tell the janitors and custodians, “THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO”. You have no idea how much this will mean to them. Make them feel seen and appreciated because they deserve it and more.
