It has been less than a year since Newsquest last came to our offices hunting for savings at the expense of the newspaper we put out each day. Now they are back again with even more cuts. @NUJofficial

@Mhheimdall @TobyGranville @pressgazette What is lazy and inadequate about using a direct quote from a reporter directly affected by newsroom redundancies? Toby wouldn't know, he hasn't worked in a newsroom for years. An instance of lazy, inadequate tweeting on your part perhaps?
..... because he has suffered the effects of those redundancies and more since. That he has done so well in his exams, considering Newsquest's slash and burn policy towards the Advertiser and the increased workload on staff, is all the more amazing. Well done Tom!
Oh dear Toby. Suppose it's understandable you don't recognise a reporter who was on the picket line you tried and failed to sneak past. You couldn't look any of them in the face could you? Tom knows exactly what has happened to the newsroom......
@TobyGranville @swindonadver@wiltsgazette@wiltshiretimes What’s so incredible about needing SIX reporters?
No-one else is surprised that you can’t even give these jobs away with the constant fear of cuts in your newsrooms...
“Newsquest newsrooms are staggering from one set of redundancies to the next with legitimate questions arising around the safety of heaping ever-increasing workloads and stress on remaining staff,” says @NUJofficial as further redundancies announced.

"The affected staff, who were described as ‘resources’ in their consultation letters, now face having to justify their existence in interviews.”

Is anybody surprised? I know it’s a disgrace the way they and Trinity Mirror treat local newspapers with long and successful histories, but they don’t give a sh*t sadly.
Every cut in editorial staff reduces the quality and saleability of the product, cutting future sales and advertising revenue -- and profits. A ridiculous and short sighted approach -- that also serves to keep public less informed.
In four months time I'll be pounding the streets in the The Nationwide New Swindon Half Marathon 2018 Today I'm launching my fundraising drive for Swindon 105.5 - Community Radio Swindon. Next Sunday, I'll be... https://t.co/sVpVmp6Xhh
It’s slightly alarming that the man in charge of Newsquest’s editorial output @TobyGranville has such a poor grasp of the facts, especially given how recent these events took place. Or are we attempting to rewrite history? https://t.co/0LeUJMNd4W
Methinks @TobyGranville could do with a decent sub to fact check his statement, as saying that both of the roles have arisen through resignations is categorically untrue. “Facts not fiction please!” https://t.co/SiZoVrlzOj
@glovelace With the task ahead of having to “build a great newslist for print and online, write a great headline for all platforms and know what it takes to turn a press release into something readers actually want to share” I doubt they will have time for dinner parties! 😉
Our news editor was made redundant at Christmas. Now @TobyGranville has realised a daily newspaper does need one after all.
Go figure...

@glovelace Perhaps @TobyGranville could shed some light on the thinking behind the job title? And maybe the job description too while he is at it? We would all love to know how this role differs from that of a news editor...
@Paulhume1gmail1@eamonderry @TobyGranville This is one of the options our colleagues at @NUJofficial HQ will be looking in to. You would have to wonder what sort of loophole would allow this sort of behaviour to be legally sound.
