Hi all, this is Ady’s wife, Rachael. I’m devastated to share the news that Ady has died from complications of ALS. You probably knew Ady as a healthcare activist. But more importantly he was a wonderful dad and my life partner for 18 years. [1/4]
Team @BeAHero here. Many of you have asked what you can do for Ady’s family as they grieve.
One way you can help is by donating to the GoFundMe created by his friends. It would have meant the world to Ady to see folks come together to support his family.

@BeaHero Thank you to everyone who has supported Ady and our family over the years—from the amazing caregivers who became family to us to the activists facing their own health challenges who joined the movement he was building @BeAHero. [4/4]

@BeaHero Ady fought for the 24/7 care he needed to be home with us until the end of his life. It’s impossible to thank his incredible caregivers enough for their labor and care, which allowed us to live as a family through Ady’s health challenges. Everyone should have that chance. [3/4]
Medicare Advantage *appears* to be better for you if you are relatively healthy.
But the problem with getting older is that, inevitably, you get sick. @SenJeffMerkley#MedicareDisadvantage
Has Medicare Advantage achieved its objectives?
No. It has failed the American people.
Thank you @SenJeffMerkley for explaining so succinctly. #MedicareDisadvantage
“Do not choose your health [and] prescription drug coverage based on an advertisement.”
Why? Because the private insurers running ads for Medicare (Dis)Advantage have been known to deploy misleading marketing to get folks to sign up. Shame.
More and more elected officials are waking up to the fact that #MedicareDisadvantage has been a complete failure for the American people.
Private insurance companies have used it to suck massive profits through denial of critical care.
We need to #ReclaimMedicare.
Congratulations to the doctors who have unionized at @AllinaHealth and formed the largest group of unionized doctors in the private sector.
Our lives are in their hands. They're at the forefront of fighting for safe, adequate staffing.

From cumbersome prior authorization requirements to lack of transparency, providers and patients alike are fed up with Medicare (Dis)Advantage.

.@SenWarren slams Medicare Advantage marketing tactics and up-coding! They're splurging millions on deceitful ads, tricking folks on Medicare into their (Dis)Advantage plans. Let's expose this scam and fight for transparent healthcare! #ReclaimMedicare
Bad actors in Medicare Advantage are:
- Overcharging the government by billions
- Using the money to lure seniors & people with disabilities with deceptive advertising
- Refusing to cover the care patients need

.@SenWarren exposes the dirty tricks of Medicare Advantage plans with their sneaky marketing and up-coding tactics. It's time to #ReclaimMedicare and protect our health! 💪✊
After @AdyBarkan’s convo w/ @SenJeffMerkley about the need to #ReclaimMedicare from private insurers…
@SenateFinance is holding a hearing on these private insurers' marketing abuses. The fact that this hearing is happening at all shows that our movement is gaining momentum!
We applaud @SenateFinance for holding a hearing about this very issue TODAY at 10 AM EST.
Will you tweet @SenateFinance and let them know people are paying attention to this issue?
The private insurers that run Medicare (Dis)advantage plans spend MILLIONS on misleading advertisements.
Their goal? Convince older adults and people with disabilities to sign up for plans that could let them down when they need it most.
Senator @RonWyden and the @SenateFinance committee need to ask the hard questions that will protect people from being scammed. It’s time to #ReclaimMedicare from greedy insurance executives.
Right now, insurance corporations are spending millions of dollars on deceptive advertising to lure and trick people on Medicare into signing up for their Medicare (Dis)Advantage plans.
