While no Iranian is going to be surprised that Mojtaba is the I.R's next leader, it just shows once again that velayat-e faghih is a failed ideology. Neither of the two Khameneis held the religious status of what the 'leader' was supposed to be at the time they were chosen.
For those interested in the evolution of Russia-Iran relations, my book comes out next month.

@elonmusk - Please add a geo-block feature to @X. I don't want to see slop, spam and just overall stupidity from people in countries that have nothing to do with me or the people and places that I actually care about.
The CIA is working to arm Kurdish forces with the aim of sparking a popular uprising in Iran, multiple people familiar with the plan told CNN. https://t.co/RA3GKyH0Vj
Not the first time a Baluch sectarian group tried to rebrand itself to something more neutral sounding in an attempt to be palatable to Iranians more generally. Jondallah attempted the same thing a year or so before Abdolmalek Rigi was captured.
While all focus is on Iranian Kurdish opposition groups (and recent establishment of coalition among 5 major parties), notable that Baluch militants preceded that action with their own coalition. They additionally rebranded as "national opposition"..

Can the Islamic regime survive? The scale of brutality used to suppress public protests against the clerical regime may signal a point of no return in the fortunes of the Islamic Republic. It has been a brutal & incompetent regime & must go. https://t.co/qaFvV0fg3Y via @jricole
@beverleyturner@MaajidNawaz No Bev, that Pakistani guy knows nothing about Iran and can tell you nothing about Iranians. There are plenty of Iranian analysts and academics living and working in the UK that you can follow if you want to understand Iran. Speak to actual Iranians.
I don't understand why some Pakistanis/Indians like this feel the urge to speak about Iran. They are totally foreign and irrelevant to Iranians. I've been seeing a lot of this on X lately. I hope this is limited to just online. Nobody in or outside of Iran cares what they think.
If you haven't figured it out yet, this is a war on Islam. Fully manufactured by Mossad, CIA and Western Imperialism. Supported by ignorant Iranians, working with foreign collaborators.
⚠️ Confirmed: Live metrics show #Iran is now in the midst of a nationwide internet blackout; the incident follows a series of escalating digital censorship measures targeting protests across the country and hinders the public's right to communicate at a critical moment 📉
Iranshahr is prone to terrorist attacks. Drive-by shootings against police are not unusual there. Last month it was reported that a few anti-Iran Islamist groups merged into one. They shouldnt be conflated with the mainstream of Iranians resisting oppression. Two unrelated goals.
BREAKING:
The moment of the assassination of Mahmoud Haqiqat, commander of the police station in Iranshahr, Iran.
He was the former head of the city’s Intelligence and was responsible for cracking down on anti-regime Baluchs in the city.
@ESpeaksFreely I'm in Camden regularly, for the bars, including the World's End just behind you. Not surprised that nobody in the area is paying attention to that protest group. Nobody goes to Camden for that.
